Beira Mar House

Located in one of the most typical and established neighbourhoods of Aveiro (Beira Mar), this residence is the result of a passionate and challenging reform, a reform which intends to return to the city and to its users a lifestyle which is free and in contact with outdoor spaces, with the sound of seagulls and the smell of the sea breeze, the colour of the sky and the green of the vegetation.   Built on a plot of land measuring 30 meters long and 2.5 meters wide, it formally establishes itself as a habitable corridor, which, from the moment of entry, is filled with moments of darkness, light, surprise, discovery, compression and, lastly, release… the backyard patio!   With sober and elemental materials, basic and essen... Quartinho

The pre-existing building had numerous interventions to accommodate a service station of the traffic department from Rio de Janeiro. In order to recover the traces of its original form, the internal partitions that constituted small rooms, the lining that was covering the roof design and the existing bricks were demolished. With a clear floor plan, we designed new structures for the bar, kitchen, bathrooms, staff area and warehouse. All the interventions were thought based from the collection of works by the artist (and one of the partners) Jonas Aisengart, which are very colorful. We adopt a gallery-neutral architecture to highlight his art - paintings and sculptures - and the other items that make up the space - cages, lamps, plants and di... More

Triodos Bank

The natural surroundings of the Estate were considered during the development of the new office. The design and construction are centred around principles of nature and biomimicry. Biomimetic architecture seeks solutions for sustainability in nature by following its set of principles and using it as a model, taking inspiration from natural designs and processes. Building heights have been adjusted to remain below the treeline. Bat flight routes were respected, and a special light plan was developed to prevent disorientation and to protect fauna. The energy-neutral building consists of sustainable materials and a demountable, wood-hybrid construction, which was designed by Rau Architects and constructed by JP van Eesteren... PIX HOUSE

This project is an architectural intervention done on a single-family house. At the request of the client, the existing house and the local architectural memory and identity should be preserved in order to avoid unnecessary construction waste. Therefore, we went on a search for coincident alignments that would allow us to unify the isolate buildings and transform them into a unit. We took over the central patio void, which we covered in large glass sheets supported by steel columns and beams forming a freestanding structure, independent from the existing fragile walls, and as an architectural hiatus, we invaded and dressed this void with the purpose of joining the buildings. As a result, we unified the two volumes in a way that allowed... More
