MZNO as Architects

The pre-existing building had numerous interventions to accommodate a service station of the traffic department from Rio de Janeiro. In order to recover the traces of its original form, the internal partitions that constituted small rooms, the lining that was covering the roof design and the existing bricks were demolished.

With a clear floor plan, we designed new structures for the bar, kitchen, bathrooms, staff area and warehouse. All the interventions were thought based from the collection of works by the artist (and one of the partners) Jonas Aisengart, which are very colorful. We adopt a gallery-neutral architecture to highlight his art - paintings and sculptures - and the other items that make up the space - cages, lamps, plants and disconnected furniture.

The apparent bricks in the upper part were white painted and the walls in the lower half were redone with a smooth finish, free for exposure. The cement floor in the lounge gives way to gravel in the outdoor area, which also has an awning for rainy days.

The five-meter-long bar, with its rounded edges, has an apparent concrete top, eco-terracotta tiled bottom closure, and a large background shelf, displaying bottles next to an unlikely mix of entertaining stuff.

The original features of the façade have also been retained, but now with the color of the visual identity - the superstar pink - and new details such as the freehand painted main door, the beaded curtain and the neon sign.
