Individual Housing in La Docherie
The interlocking of the houses creates a volumetric rhythm that emphasizes their entrances. This staggered sequence of homes begins with the gables of the immediate neighbors. A small front garden is included to provide a sense of privacy between the dwelling entrance and the public space. Each house also has a dedicated parking space in front.

Opening up a Museum
The current classic building of the Reina Sofía Museum is, due to successive historical vicissitudes, a rigid structure that turns its back to the Paseo del Prado and does not offer the urban and functional appeal expected from a contemporary art museum.
To transform that severe character and bring the Institution closer to a future improvement and extension of the Paseo del Prado ―which should include a renovated Atocha Station, as well as more green and pedestrian areas―, the Museum resolved in 2022 a competition of which COLL-BARREU ARQUITECTOS was the winner.

In Barcelona, Spanish architectural studio b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos has completed a thoughtful rehabilitation and conversion of the old and obsolete Simon electrical material factory into a new corporate headquarters. A heritage brand first established in 1916 in the Catalonian town of Olot, Simon specializes in technological solutions for lighting, connectivity, and electrical equipment. Electrical switches are one of the company’s trademark products — fittingly, the newly revamped Barcelona HQ is symbolically named SWITCH: “Simon Worldwide Innovation Talent Community Hub”.

Polish architectural studio Robert Konieczny KWK Promes has transformed a former, run-down slaughterhouse in the Czech city of Ostrava into the PLATO Gallery of Contemporary Art. The project, the result of an international competition organized by the Statutory City of Ostrava, seeks to make art more accessible and democratic. Detail: ADT rehabilitates a house in Versailles using concrete chamotte
Paris-based Atelier Delalande Tabourin (ADT) has completed the rehabilitation of a 300-square-meter (3,229-square-feet) house located in a 1950s residential area of the town of Versailles. ADT introduced four architectural interventions to the home’s dark interior: four “wells” — for lighting and circulation — that pierce the existing floors and act as distinctive features around which spaces are articulated. These new additions are made with concrete chamotte (grog), a material obtained from the crushed shards of defective bricks.
