Inn bridge Wiesing

Competition 2025, 1st place. In planning. The new bridge over the Inn is planned in the immediate vicinity of the existing, listed historic stone bridge. The “old bridge” derives its strength from its impressive sequence of arches as well as from the massiveness and homogeneity of its rough natural stone. The design of the new bridge responds with a clear, monolithic architectural language that approaches the historic ensemble with care, without competing with it. A powerful yet subtly balanced gesture: The arches of the new bridge reference the dimensions and form of the historic bridge without imitating it. The new structure is clearly articulated, dynamically sculpted, and appears as if cast from a single piece—a conti... More

Bridge Splavarska Brv Lent-Tabor

Maribor's coachmen were the most delighted when, in 1912, the Austrians inaugurated what is now called the Stari Most—the Old Bridge—over the Drava River, replacing a wooden structure that caused a frustrating bottleneck on the busy road from Vienna to Trieste. Linking the elevated districts of Lent and Tabor to the north and south, the Stari Most eventually became a symbol of the city, although it left the Drava riverbanks disconnected at the lower level. The new Splavarska pedestrian bridge now reconnects both margins very close to the Old Bridge. Beside it, the new bridge remains silent, emphasizing the presence of the old metallic structure while distinguishing itself through a different materiality. Entirely wrapped in wood... More

Burgos RIO

The city of Burgos has the opportunity to better integrate its urban fabric—its activities and its citizens—with the Arlanzón River—its landscapes and its ecology. In line with successful precedents in other European cities, the re-naturalization of riverbeds and the improvement of water quality and fluvial landscapes help underscore the importance of the Arlanzón River within the invaluable heritage of Burgos. Its inhabitants already enjoy the riverbanks, a varied and beautiful space, though inconsistent in its state of conservation and accessibility. It is necessary to project its enormous landscape and social potential into the future, enriching the relationship between the city and its natural surrounding... More

Oblique Bridge

The Oblique Bridge was part of the M30 highway until the underground works in 2005 left it abandoned and slated for demolition. It is a valuable structure from 1969 by the engineer Fernández-Casado. The deck is a slender post-tensioned concrete trapezoidal slab with a complex, gently banked and curvilinear layout reflecting the ‘high-speed’ geometry of the highway. Ana Muller Imagen Subliminal The undergrounding project required the demolition of one of its abutments and foundations and the cutting of the ribs, leaving the bridge partially cantilevered. Despite this damage, the structure remained standing. The Madrid Río project renovated it into a pedestrian and cycling bridge. This rehabilitation invol... More

CLUB PEJERREY DE QUILMES

TRADITION AND MODERNITY The project is proposed as a careful intervention that will mediate between the existing constructions and the new ones. The formal resolutions of the proposed architectures dialogue with the traditional roofs of riverside constructions with 4-sloped roofs. The will of the new is to fit into the system of pre-existing buildings to be restored and preserved. Pouaka Waikura Rust Sheds

The 1.8-hectare site is a natural formed terrace snuggled into the gentle north sloping base of Queenstown Hill in the South Island of New Zealand, overlooking the untamed Shotover River which disappears around the bend below. Simon Wilson The clients are staunch locals having spent most of their life in a modest cottage on the same road. They have owned the site for twenty years: planting and tending to the now mature grapes on the back terraces. They sought a permanent home here: a rural home for their mature years where they would be happily making wine and tinkering on old cars. Simon Wilson Simon Wilson The home consists of four robust rectilinear pavilions laid informally along the terrace. The materials include off t... More

Little House on the River

“a reflection on our landscapes and a return to the essence of childhood to inhabit, play and explore, the refuge, the tree house, summer, the metaphorical value of the created territory, the awareness of the lived place, the passage of time, inside the forest and next to the river" Caption The landscape is what is present in nature and goes beyond the visual or perceptual if we understand it as a system of resources and interactions that allow it to be, giving it value is being able to dialogue with it without damaging its essence. Architecture is when you know how to read that system and join it, if you are environmentally conscious, as one more element that makes the most of resources without damaging them, where, every day,... Via Donau Administration

The long, one-story structure perfectly and naturally merges into the existing ensemble on the banks of the Danube. Yet it successfully redefines the place, recharges it and provides it with a new unique identity. Floating on a “high-water platform”, its subtle elegance radiates far into the river basin and reflects the interplay between longitudinal wood volumes and transversed rural massive buildings. Bruno Klomfar Bruno Klomfar The roof gable is slightly tilted and lifted to underline the main entrance accessible by ramps. The foyer and the multifunctional seating room are connected to the front terrace to be clearly visible and enhanced to high quality spaces. The wide vertical wooden lamellas to the Danube underl... Sava Activities

Sava Activities is an on-going public urban design project aiming to reintroduce the riverbanks of Zagreb’s Sava River to the daily life of the city. Initiated as a competition proposal in 2015, the project had been developed around the flood related characteristics of the river. Unlike the other European capitals which are established around a river, Zagreb’s urban growth had been formed with a tendency to move away from Sava. As the wildest branch of Danube, Sava River historically had harmed and destructed Zagreb, but now regulated with the construction of the embankment; its riverbanks carry the potential to be rethought as vital urban spaces of Zagreb. Due to increasing water levels which occur several times a year, no pe... More

La Mansa Nordelta

The La Mansa complex has a privileged location in the Golf Islands, surrounded on three of its sides by water. This, in addition to being a virtue, becomes a challenge, since due to its position it concentrates perspectives from different points of Nordelta. The building assumes the resolution of a meandering piece that contains the terrain at different scales, by means of a seven-level curved plate facing the central lake and another low-scale piece bordering the internal shoreline, forming a central plaza between them. The building judiciously resolves the different programmatic demands. The main body houses the most conventional units, typologies of 1, 2 and 3 bedrooms with direct views of the water from the semi-public spaces and the sil... More

Paseo Rio Viejo

Located along the edge of the “Rio viejo” stream on the east side of the Magic Town of Palizada, Campeche, an urban corridor is created that takes advantage of and respects the site conditions, frames the traditional image of Palizada and duplicates the recreational public space , generating new spaces for the encounter and enjoyment of the population. The project becomes a filter that avoids direct contamination; By taking care of the quality of the water, the existing ecosystem and the animal and plant species that inhabit it are rescued. The intervention is made up of an integrated route with green areas and street fronts along the edge of the stream, framing the views towards the traditional constructions of the site, thus r... Wientalterrasse

The Vienna Terraces are one of the new design measures developed in the Vienna Valley Urban Development Plan that addresses the urgent localized need to provide more public open space for the 5th and 6th Viennese districts. Bridging over the entrenched U4 subway line, the terraces expand the existing public space directly to the edge of the Vienna River. The pedestrian and cycling routes along the south bank of the Vienna River are reconceived as a welcoming, linear public space with recreational and social qualities. The design elements and materiality, i.e. abundant planters, natural vegetation and integrated wooden seating, invite public use while also fostering a positive connection with nature and water recreation. Overall, the project... More

The rebirth of the Prague’s riverfront

The first part of the long-awaited revitalization of the Prague riverfront area called Náplavka is coming to completion, making it one of the most attractive public embankments in Europe. In autumn 2019, nineteen vaults on the Rašín and Hořejší Embankments will be put into use. Six will feature the biggest elliptical pivoting windows in the world, connecting the inner spaces with the riverfront area in a unique way, through the diagonal rotation of the five-meter wide glazed “lenses”. The other spaces will have distinct steel sculptural entrances. The area has gradually grown in popularity thanks to the program activation that began in 2008. One of its initiators was architect Petr Janda, the author of the architectural concept. The alm... More
