SOPHIE SCHOLL NURSERY SCHOOL

The issue of superimposed programs raises the question of the identity of its components. Lot A1 of the Léon Blum joint development zone, at the foot of the future SGP line 15 station, is home to a residential development of 144 units and a 12-class nursery school. Sergio Grazia Sergio Grazia Sergio Grazia The program is complex. Everyone has to find their place, their identity. Particularly the very young. The Sophie Scholl school forms the base, the support for the operation, anchoring the facility in the public space, while providing protection from the outside world. The envelope is made of light-colored architectural concrete. The complex is built over two and a half stories. The program is divided into two entit... More

Sisten Elementary School

The school should always be a living place... A boundless space, a place for development and exchange for the entire community. The primary basis for designing this school is its focus on context. Local materials and construction methods are employed using simple building technologies, grounded in a model of collective participation, to elevate the human spirit in a traditional manner for the younger generation.  The most important aspect of this construction is to inspire people so that, after the school's completion, they can build their own homes using the same techniques. The independent puzzle-like volumes, resembling fragments of cracked earth, are interconnected by pathways fed from an oval-shaped central source that serves... More

Garden School

The city in general, and a South Asian megacity in particular, is a challenging place for a child. To learn and grow, she needs an environment that fosters freedom and exploration – these are hard to come by in today’s city. The Garden School in Mumbai is conceived as this protective space, holding off the oppressive conventions and constraints of the city, for a child to be free. Niveditaa Gupta Niveditaa Gupta Niveditaa Gupta Niveditaa Gupta Niveditaa Gupta Set on a tiny plot of about 450 square metres and bordered by an overgrown urban village at one end and a narrow, busy street on the other, it was clear from the start that this kindergarten would need to be a vertical one. The available footprint,... More

Ecole du Zenith

Set in a vast and open landscape, the school appears as a new horizon line, shaped by the interplay of volumes and roofs. The pavilions are assembled around an inner courtyard that frames the magnificent view of Mount Shefford. The ensemble offers a dual interpretation, allowing the expression of both the individuality of each cycle and the broader school community. Each student can identify with their own pavilion, their own "home," and thus visualize their past and future academic journey through the school cycles. With large windows, overhanging roofs, and multiple entry points, the architecture aims to make the boundary between inside and outside as permeable as possible, thus connecting the architecture with the landscape. MIDDLE SCHOOL

Located very close to a poplar woods and a river in Buttrio (Udine), the middle school hosts grades 11-13 and includes a sport hall. MARCO CAPPELLETTI The school is the last development of an educational masterplan composed of 3 buildings: a nursery + kindergarden and a primary school. MARCO CAPPELLETTI The building acts as a transition between the natural environment and the mineral surfaces of the intervention. MARCO CAPPELLETTI The double height atrium and the circulation system are intended as collective and active space where the students can interact and work everywhere in a flexible way. MARCO CAPPELLETTI Classrooms and labs are directly connected with this system and allow innovative and dynamic learning stra... More

Grundschule Fuchshofstraße

The Fuchshofschule in Ludwigsburg's west is spatially designed to provide an appropriate place of learning and shared exchange for various large parts of the school community. The new school building, which emerged from a competition, now extends northwards from Fuchshofstraße. Based on the design image of a filled bookshelf on a playground, it was possible to transfer this ideal of school learning between the imparting of knowledge and social interaction into a wooden hybrid building. The three ceiling slabs cantilever out like shelves, offering the school community space for individual filling in the middle of a flowing outdoor area. For the new primary school in Ludwigsburg, a school building had to be developed that both complies... More

KCCS

KCCS is what happens when a progressive client with ambitions to foster tomorrow’s leaders meets a creative architectural studio looking to lead now. Tom Ferguson Tom Ferguson Collaborating closely with our client, we helped plan a multi staged strategy for establishing a new, independent and innovative school in Arncliffe, Sydney. The school opened in 2015, putting into practice its belief that schools should utilise modern methods of engaging students to best equip them for a future world that no one can truly define. Tom Ferguson Tom Ferguson Tom Ferguson Our goal was to design a space to support the delivery of that pedagogy. To establish a framework where the school’s 4C values; creativity, critic... More

“Next level” STEM Hub

5 years after the opening of the Young Innovators lab for students from 1st to 4th grade, the school’s team approached us to develop a STEM hub for the older students - 5th to 7th grade - as part of a strategic plan for renovation of the northern wing of the building. The space would be located on the second floor, consisting of two classrooms and two storage rooms. Doriyan Todorov The Next Level hub targets project-based learning in robotics, digital sciences and at the same time developing skills such as presentation, teamwork and communication. An essential space had to be planned for the teachers: a place where they could collaborate together to plan interdisciplinary classes, new ways to approach the traditional program and... More

SREDIŠĆE EDUCATIONAL COMPLEX

The complex is a set of orthogonal volumes along the eastern margin of the plot keeping the same perimeter and strict height relationship. The American school forms the northeast corner, the Croatian elementary school the southeast, and the kindergarten is a neutral, low structure in the middle. The objects are in a dialogue of form and structure; they build a space around the inner courtyards and emphasize the intimacy or security of the introvert. The educational complex is a nearly-zero design and the orientation is strictly determined by the optimal lighting in the north-south direction with glazed facades or east-west where the solid wall surface dominates. GIU_GIURIA NURSERY AND KINDERGARTEN

The project lot, located within the block between Via Pietro Giuria, Corso Massimo D'Azeglio, Corso Dante and Via Tiziano Vecellio, until a few years ago housed an elementary school that was recently demolished, due to both the obsolescence of the prefabricated structure and the very limited capacity of the spaces to adapt to new educational needs. The new nursery is conceived on the importance that space, the "third educator", exerts in the individual and social growth of girls and boys, valuing both the spaces dedicated to them and the participation of adults as a fundamental element in the growth process within the children's center and the family.  The designed building presents a courtyard layout with the entrance located on the... PAN_PANZACCHI SECONDARY SCHOOL

The design vision starts from the valorization the site's barycentric position as an element of urban reconnection and as an opportunity to redefine an attractive cultural hub for the municipality.Three simple volumes are grafted onto a regular modular mesh, adapted to meet the concrete needs of speed in the realization of the intervention, and arranged to define a public front on Viale 2 Giugno, on which the functions usable by the entire community, gymnasium and auditorium, are displaced. Connected by a junction with the flexible function of entrance atrium and foyer, the biggest volume is placed in the second line in a more collected dimension: the entrance takes place to the southeast, where a furnished widening of the current Passeggia... AVC_VALCHIUSA NURSERY AND KINDERGARTEN

The building intended for nursery and kindergarten was designed in 1966 by Arch. Martino Chiuminatto and Eng. Mario Ricono, who also supervised the structural design of the building, which was completed and tested in 1969. The building is presented as a single slatted building, placed perpendicular to the line of maximum slope of the land, and thus has a basement floor (free valley front and completely buried upstream front), a second floor that becomes a kind of ground floor upstream, and a second floor (volume emerging from the single sleeve of pitched roof). The main access is from the south, from the municipal road, via a steep asphalt driveway. Caption The architectural design provides for the integration of structural reinforcem... More

CVR_CAVAION SECONDARY SCHOOL

The project proposes the reinterpretation of an enlarged intervention area, in which the construction of the new secondary school building represents the inclusion of an additional pavilion within a large park dedicated to sports and exercise as the main tool for prevention and health promotion. The existing structures, gymnasium and polyclinic, are incorporated into the ground design within a coherent system: targeted earth movements, new plantings and soft design of paths allow to stitch the area from the resulting spaces, restoring a hierarchy that brings back to the center the enjoyment of the outdoor space. The area aspires to become a new porous and attractive lung at the service of the community, connected to the urban center and nei... More

CSV_SAN VITTORE KINDERGARTEN AND PRIMARY SCHOOL

The municipality of San Vittore, already marked by the caesura of the Cantonale road that abruptly divides the historic village from the next conurbation to the south, suffers from the fraying created by residential expansion in recent years.  The project proposes the new school complex as a counterpoint identity element to the Pala Tower and works on the stitching together, redefining a centrality through the redevelopment of the public area in front of the cylindrical tower of St. Lucius Church, extending to the gymnasium and Basketball court. Caption Settled to the northeast of the intervention lot, the building defines a new square by placing itself in relation with the former Administration building (which is imagined redev... More

GCO_ COSSATO HIGH SCHOOL

The project for the demolition and reconstruction of the current Cossatese High School aims to create a new hub focused on the well-being of future users of the school and on improving the area for the residents of the municipality as well. The outdoor spaces are organized as follows: the area pertaining to the gymnasium is characterized by an outdoor sports field and an athletic track, the latter already present in the current context but slightly shifted to optimize the use of the outdoor space, and the urban park, built on the old school site, is afferent to both the school and urban areas. The entrance to the school is envisioned on the existing Via Martiri della Libertà, passed the urban park, while the existing areas used for... More
