MAG.I.CO The thinnest maglev sliding door in the world

The thinnest maglev sliding door in the world. We have dreamed of overcoming gravity for house slides by using high-tech terrestrial magnetic field at a sustainable cost. We wanted to simulate what in Japan is the technology on high-speed trains, and slide the doors with a touch of hand on air bearings, removing friction. We were able to support the weight of the sliding doors from above through a floating air-to-air float in the absence of any mechanical contact and therefore friction, with advantages never seen before in the sliding world. We have used 400-year-long compulsory permanent magnets without any power supply.Model registered and tested to ADI Milano (industrial design association). Flush-to-wall Paintable Collection

A new way of imagining and interpreting the wall: an uninterrupted, homogeneous surface with a single finish from floor to ceiling, in which the geometric cuts of the openings and skirting boards define the space. Not only plays of colour, but also plays of light to define rooms and delimit spaces. Neutral shapes to be painted or wallpapered, in the name of total freedom. ECLISSE has developed a wide range of products that allow entire walls to be transformed into a single canvas, allowing you to give the space the style, colour or surface effect you want (and without interruption!), perfectly integrating sliding and hinged doors, hatches and skirting boards into it. All products can be painted like a wall, with the same colours and texture... More

The Road's End House

A MODERN PLACE TO RETIRE  Portland architects Giulietti/Schouten focus on custom, single-family homes—both new builds and remodels—throughout the Pacific Northwest. Their regional expertise drew Mary and Phil Krueger to approach the firm with an ambitious project: replacing their 1938 property in Lincoln City with a modern home. They wanted their home to take advantage of the stunning Oregon Coast views and have design features like wide door frames that would allow them to age in place through retirement and into their golden years. A sliding door was the easy choice for the upstairs master bedroom. Not only did it fit the overall aesthetic of the home, it checked the boxes of ease of use and compatibility with oversized... More

Stable Conversion

When a Chicago-based painter and a digital designer moved to Kirkland, Washington they bought a home that came with a horse stable. The biggest animal they owned, however, was a dog. They decided to repurpose the horse stable, common for their neighborhood, which abuts the Bridle Trails State Park, as a multiuse space complete with a painter’s studio, a workspace, and a guest bedroom. They hired SHED Architecture to renovate both the stable and the house, and saw an opportunity to have fun with the smaller structure. “As the conversion occurred in concert with a remodel of the main house, the stable became a site for big ideas and a more open-ended project brief,” said SHED Principal Thomas Shaer. “Our goal was pret... The OFS Brands showroom in Los Angeles features a stunning glass conference room with Krownlab sliding door hardware.   A CUSTOM SPACE FOR CUSTOM FURNITURE  When OFS Brands designed their new Los Angeles showroom, they tapped Pam Light, pL-D Studio, and Klawiter and Associates to help shape it. OFS is a family owned, community driven company that has been providing socially responsible furniture and logistics solutions since 1937. It was important that their showroom have a truly refined aesthetic that preserved existing architectural elements—a spatial metaphor for their modern product offerings and their rich heritage. Woodland House

A young family from Chicago built their dream home in rural Wisconsin.   BACK TO NATURE  Chicago urbanites Dave and Jamie Van Dixhorn and their three young children uprooted from the windy city to the small town of Kohler, Wisconsin, looking for a radical change of lifestyle. Proximity to nature was a central priority. But they also wanted to keep some of that urban sensibility they had come to love: open spaces, large windows and functional design. Dave and Jamie hired Osterhaus-McCarthy and Milwaukee-based Bruns Architecture to design a 6,000-square-foot home to their specifications. As Dave likes to say, “The design blurs the lines between the natural beauty of the outdoors with the comforts of modern living.”... More

heroal S 65

The aluminium sliding door system heroal S 65 is characterised by a extremely easy and efficient production and an innovative sash design. The insulating strips have been especially developed for this sliding door system and make especially large sashes possible while at the same time offering protection against warping (bi-metal effect). Since the labyrinth is pre-installed at the sash profiles, a separate fastening is no longer necessary and very slim central joints of only 62 mm face width become possible. As usual, the sashes are mitre-cut. The all-around frame reduces the complexity of the system, leading to simplified production. As an economically attractive solution, the sliding door system heroal S 65 is especially suited for upsca... More

Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House

MEETING A GREATER NEEDThe Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House has a long history of supporting families of seriously ill children, beginning in 1974. When the time came to increase their capacity, they looked to renowned local architecture firm Ewing Cole and experienced contractor P. Agnes to expand a 40,000-square-foot facility.Capacity had been a constant challenge before the project. In 2018, 7,152 families that requested care could not be accommodated. Called the Jill and Alan B. Miller Tower, the project involved developing a 93,000 square foot structure to have 127 rooms. Previously, there had been 45. The increased capacity has made a major impact: room nights per year have increased from 16,000 to 40,000.WELLNESS THROUGH DESIGNEwing... More
