Pierce Education Properties brought ID Studios in to collaborate with AVRP Studios on Topaz Apartments, a new, seven-story ground-up off-campus student housing building just steps from SDSU. Angular, blue graphics fill the two-story, glass-lined lobby and globe lights give the illusion of stars in the night sky. In immediate proximity to the École Polytechnique elite university, the residence offers students a living space in green surroundings. The identical cubic buildings are arranged evenly across the park-like grounds. The green areas, lushly planted with trees and native plants unite the residence into a harmonious ensemble.All buildings have the same typology: four residential levels above a recessed ground floor with generously glazed communal areas opening onto the park. The design of Federal Way High School is rooted in a progressive vision of how design supports and advances education. Driven by the client to rethink how educational facilities respond to changing teaching methods, the team began with facilitated programmatic studies that engaged the administration, community, and students. We scrutinized presumptions about pedagogy, program, and function. With Limited capacities, a new private entrepreneurial higher professional school is realised in the forma industrial district of Amsterdam Noord. Opened in 2017 and doubled in students in 2018. Both designs, the first floor in the first year and ground floor after the expansion are done by OFMAA. The rough materialisation breathes the industrial history of thebuilding and surrounding and represents the entrepreneurship of de industrialarea. It also connects to the perceptions of these young students.
