A small compact 1600sft, 3bedroom flat was to be designed to cater the needs and aesthetics for three generations and three couples living in. The challenge was to incorporate the exhaustive and diverse functional requirements with coherent aesthetic details. The client’s brief was to design a shopping complex on a very prominent and busy road in a tight urban site in Gandhi Nagar near railway station and Bus stand, Bangalore. The challenge was attracting and offering an experience of sophisticated street shopping to various genre of people, from villager to an urban dweller. The client brief was to design a commercial complex on a very prominent and busy road in a tight urban site. The fact that due to massive urban development in last two decades, the green cover of city has depleted drastically. While we believe that density can, and many times must be seen as a form of sustainability, we also admit that the relationship between habitation within an old urban fabric and the increase of its density is often a fragile one, as places might lose their character. The office space is located on 4th floor of a 25 year old building, on a cross road of Mission road, Bangalore. The clients brief was to design an office space for rental purpose at a modest budget. Having an open - ended brief and not knowing the end user (could change with time), the design team planned for a collaborative, minimalist and open office. The Tranquil apartment is located at the end of the food street, in V.V Puram, Bangalore. The structure is strategically layered between the residential locality and the ever bustling and lively food street. The area adorns a contemporary character from the contrasting old colonial structures and temples. The design team wanted the characteristic of the surrounding area to be portrayed in the façade. The inside out façade allows the inmates to be in ode with nature. This also allows ample sunlight to veil the interiors. The commercial complex planned in Jigani, an industrial and marble trader’s hub, in the suburbs of Bangalore. The program of the structure was clear in client’s brief. The structure was primarily made with the objective to earn rental income in the fast-growing area and they wanted the lower floor to be used for retail or restaurant and office space in the upper floors. The typology of the structures prevailing in the area are box type industrial shed type.
