Modern Classic Style quarter in Yekaterinburg

Na Nekrasova, a new residential quarter, is located in the centre of Yekaterinburg. Despite its central location, the area has always served an industrial function with utility blocks and private garages. Located nearby are a railway with a train park, office buildings, a metro station and a boating station on the quay. In 2020 Brusnika launched a redevelopment project aiming to integrate this area into the urban fabric, making it well appointed, safe and attractive for city-dwellers.  Caption The plot master plan was designed by a Dutch KCAP bureau. The architects divided the area into four separate residential blocks located around a linear park. One side of the park area abuts onto a pedestrian bridge and a ravine with disused... More

Tower and urban block in the centre of Novosibirsk

Two buildings in the centre of Novosibirsk are part of a large redevelopment project, which Brusnika launched in 2012. The development company provided accommodation for residents of unfit houses, which were later demolished to start construction works. In 2016 the first house in the area was accomplished, and in 2021 a housing complex designed by DROM, a Netherlands based bureau, was brought to completion.   Caption The team first designed a master plan for two land plots, and later developed the buildings to fit in. The project comprises a U-shaped block with a tower. A quiet pedestrian street links the houses, and the neighbouring housing estate can be reached by crossing a small park. In contrast to the eclectic and sparse ho... More

Freitag Flagship Store

The Geroldstrasse district is characterised by its location at the crossroads between several transportation axes: on one side the Hardbrücke and Gerold ramp, opposite the railway viaduct and the wide railyard. Scattered small buildings with lively transitional uses and intensively used empty lots influence the character of the nearby surroundings to this day. The standardised 20-foot shipping container is transformed into a building block for an architectural intervention. A stepped tower rises9 units up from a 5 x 2-unit base. Originally built from 17 units with a subsequent extension of the shop by 2 lateral modules, today 19 refurbished overseas containers form the Freitag Flagship Store. The containers were... More

Alberni Tower

As part of a rezoning process in Vancouver, the construction of a 43-storey tower was put on the table. This skyscraper would replace an old office building and provide a large number of modern residencies.   Alberni tower in Vancouver, Canada has been designed by the famous Japanese architectural office “Kengo Kuma & Associates”. The 43-storey  construction stands out for its imaginative shape.  The two deep curved recesses in the front and the back side of the building, distinguish it from the traditional cuboid design.  According to the vision of Kengo Kuma, Alberni aims to be in harmony with its natural surroundings, including the mountains and the proximity of the waterfront. The facade is in line... More

Three elegant white towers by Superimpose stand tall in a new CBD district of Changzhi

Changzhi is a fourth tier industrial city, 600 kilometers south-west of Beijing. Superimpose managed to break with the conventional cookie-cutter classicistic European-style drab developments to realize a constellation of three sculptural residential towers for a younger generation of city dwellers. CreatAR The towers stand in stark contrast to the rapidly urbanizing city district. The slim apartment towers have been situated to increase uninterrupted views and maximize sunlight exposure.  CreatAR Each loft apartment comes with a unique balcony to provide character to the different units. Strict rules should ensure the balconies will remain an outdoor space.  CreatAR A light materialization contrasts the muted su... More

The first open-air tower, with loggias on each level, the Cocoa Tower (registered under its French name: La Tour Cacao) will be a genuine vertical city made-up of 29 floors where every detail has been thought-out for well-being, serenity, communication, creativity and performance. We drew up this tower keeping in mind the men and women who will live there every day. The style of architecture is both sustainable and adapted to a tropical environment, which differentiates it from the already existing towers where the design methods are too often modeled after those in temperate zones.  The tower was conceived as a continuous life platform  and  where public spaces (such as the Cocoa Museum, an amphitheater, an auditorium, meet... The new gateway to the south, our residential project Shadowplay, with developer BPM, is a fluttering, kinetic sculpture that celebrates its location – a playground of creativity and commerce in Melbourne’s Southbank. Like a silk scarf caught in a breeze, Shadowplay’s façade drips with a paradox of opulent weightlessness: a woven, undulating silver surface that is both there and not there, flowing over the strength beneath of its angular silhouette. This building appears almost alive – the pulsating surface contains gills created by the undulations of the façade, channeling and dispersing the south-west prevailing breeze. Interlacing floorplates form a stage which offers a dark side and a light side.... More

A new conceptual project of a business center in the city of Nur-Sultan. The ambitious building, reminiscent of the architecture of the future, includes a 32 storey tower with ultra-modern office spaces, company museum, commercial premises, a spacious parking lot, attractive public spaces and an extensive city park.   The concept of a new business and financial center is based on the proportions of plastic, smoothly flowing into each other, forms and futuristic design. The rhythm of the lamellae and the perforation of metal facades reinforces the sound of the main compositional idea - a smooth dynamic aspiration upwards. The unusual plastic form of the architecture also dictated the principles of shaping the internal spaces of the bu... More

The Grace

The population of The Hague will grow considerably in the next twenty years from 525,000 residents to over 625,000. To meet this challenge, the municipality is encouraging inner-city densification within the Central Innovation District (CID), a triangular area bound by the city’s three train stations. Densification will begin in three priority zones within the CID. These zones are clustered around the train stations, in accordance with the guidelines presented in the city’s 2018 high-rise report “Eyeline Skyline”.The Grace is being realised at Rijswijkseweg near the city centre and overlooks the Trekvliet canal, which will be transformed into a waterfront park for pedestrians and cyclists in the coming years. The Velostrada bicycle hig... More

Forum City

In the centre of Yekaterinburg, LEVS architecten has designed a 103,000 m² urban complex: Forum City. With its nine separate buildings and a market hall, the ensemble will form a small city within a big city. The plan repairs Yekaterinburg’s historical urban grid structure, but also smoothly integrates with its diverse surroundings. The project offers a different approach to high quality urban life in the Russian inner city, by creating an open and dynamic urban atmosphere that combines residential functions with leisure facilities and retail areas.  On the outside, Forum City is a solid, strong and recognizable city-block, with retail functions on the ground floor. Lower and higher towers of eight to thirty floors render the bloc... More

Binck Blocks

Binck Blocks is an innovative, 115-meter-high tower residential tower in The Hague. With its sturdy silhouette in the skyline of The Hague, Binck Blocks will become the entrance to the new district of Binckhorst, a landmark that serves as point of reference from all over the city. The design is a stacked city district with six vertical 'neighbourhoods', each featuring a different housing typology. The building has an innovative, creative and rough edge and represents high circular ambitions. Now Binckhorst is still a fairly monotonous industrial area, but this tower gives a clear signal that you will live here pleasantly and sustainably in the near future. In the design, LEVS sets off the concept of a vertical, heterogeneous city. The... More
