Apartment H.

BEHF Architects has transformed the interior of a historical bel étage apartment from the Gründerzeit era located in the heart of the historic centre of Vienna, only a few minutes walk from St. Stephen’s Cathedral.   The architects have created a home with a series of spacious spaces and carefully completed and restored unique parts of the original design such as floors, ceilings and doors. The apartment that boasts a mix of contemporary and historical features consists of bright, high-ceilinged rooms with parquet floorings which add detail and texture to the space. The walls of the entire apartment are painted white and feature the original stuccos which are preserved.    Behind the doors, every room ha... More

Hotel Altstadt Vienna

The rooms and suites in the 1902 Hotel Altstadt Vienna are varied and unique. Thanks to this diversity and the extensive collection of contemporary art, the hotel in Vienna’s vibrant seventh district is widely considered a hotbed of creativity. In 2014 Archisphere added two rooms with the intention of reflecting this.   Whether designed by an international architect such as Matteo Thun or a contemporary fashion icon of the caliber of Lena Hoschek—no two rooms in the Hotel Altstadt Vienna are identical. However, they all have one thing in common: Vienna’s well-known and widely praised comfort and atmosphere. Part of the goal of Archisphere’s design was to complement the colorful spectrum to be found here with a... More

A.E. Köchert Juweliere

Köchert is a family-owned company steeped in tradition. For 200 years it has been creating elegant jewellery of the highest quality. Somewhere between market stall and greengrocer: the new LGV farmers’ store   Vienna’s market gardeners produce fresh fruit and vegetables every day. The LGV farmers’ store, near the centrally located Naschmarkt in Vienna, was created with the aim of reinforcing and promoting them as a brand. A staircase leads from the gallery in the main sales room down to the cool dairy section (the “Meierei” ) in the basement. This original iron staircase reinforces the atmosp... More

Salon Sacher

BWM Architekten have tastefully inserted elements from the 1920s and 1950s into the newly designed Salon Sacher and have created a cohesive unit that marries the past and the present. Following the redesign of the Sacher Eck at the end of 2017, BWM Architekten have now also redesigned the former Sacher Stube, now known as the Salon Sacher. The black and coral colour scheme and the 1920s and 1950s elements congenially complement one other. Arched globe lights highlight the bar’s role as a centrepiece, and tinted mirrors, black lines and metallic effects perfectly round off the overall look. The preserved stucco ceiling is an absolute eyecatcher: Previously hidden behind the dropped ceiling, this historic jewel was discovered in the co... More

Saint Charles

Cosmothecary in Vienna The Saint Charles Apothecary was founded more than 130 years ago and has its philosophy deeply rooted in the traditional European Medicine. For the first monobrand store for first-class natural cosmetics Saint Charles Cosmothecary in Vienna's first high-rise building, a new exhibition concept was realised laying the focus on the customers' visual, kinaesthetic, olfactory and gustatory experience of the products. Natural materials such as wood and raw steel do justice to the honest look of the brand. The unpretentious design of the products with brown apothecary bottles and white labels pervades the entire product range. In order to show the products in their best light, whitewashed wooden pedestals are arranged again... More

Restaurant Kiang

The restaurant Kiang, located in a historic building in the center of Vienna, was designed by Helmut Richter in 1984. At the time of its opening it represented a radically new approach to interior design, especially compared to the dominant style of Chinese restaurants with dark wood and red lampions.Although it lacked the traditional Viennese „Gemütlichkeit“, it expressed a new sensitivity and became immediately an architectural icon. 34 years later the owners hired architects Tillner & Willinger for the remodelling of the historic room, contemporary illumination and the design of an extension. The new central room features the atmosphere of a dining kitchen where guests can watch the preparation of cold dishes. A new... More

Messecarree Wien

Messecarree volume A consists of a two-armed parallel building surrounding a freely formed courtyard. The architectonic shape shows the new image of the quarter and symbolises an “opening towards the suburb” by a decentralizing structure, transparency and a connecting green area.To the west the building opens up, in the east the two wings are united and windig up the courtyard whereas the lower levels open up and allow the construction to project out freely above the outside staircase.Horizontal zoning:The level beneath the plaza includes retail spaces and a central hall to combine the different usages with the public space, the parking deck and the plaza level. The two elevated basement floors above the plaza level contain office... The office building lies on the edge of bustling Praterstern square and traffic circle in the immediate vicinity of Vienna Prater, the most attractive open space resource in the city. The eight-storey building is organized into two main building volumes – one running along the railway tracks, the other along Nordbahnstrasse. The forms are bridged by clasp-like transparent spaces which house the main circulation area and meeting rooms, intended as flexible areas for informal communication and socializing. An existing fixed public passage, that connects the train station with the adjacent district, cuts the ground floor in two and presented an interesting design challenge. In response, the ground floor is left partially accessible to t... More

Skyline Spittelau

Hovering above the now-obsolete Heiligenstadt railway line and following the curve of its track, Skyline Spittelau ensures the cultural preservation of Vienna’s historic viaducts while signaling the area’s rejuvenation. Skyline Spittelau stands as the northernmost bastion of Architekten Tillner & Willinger’s URBION project, Vienna´s revitalization of the Gürtel (ring road), injecting new life into a previously maligned urban barrier. Situated at the splitting of the city´s elevated railway, the challenging site is wedged between the former Heiligenstadt track and the active Spittelau Line. The project demanded a creative solution that was simultaneously accessible to the general public as well as attr... More

Urban Loritz Platz

The Urban Loritz Platz on the Gürtel is a centrally located public space and a major public transportation hub, where several street cars and subways connect. Transforming the formerly unappealing and entangled traffic hub into an attractive, contemporary urban space, the new design for the Urban Loritz Platz heralds the revitalization of the entire Gürtel region. The design reorganized the traffic patterns of streetcars, cyclists and pedestrians to achieve a clearly ordered public space. A light and airy steel structure with a membrane roof shelters the main paths and waiting areas. The overarching cover not only protects the square from the elements, but also emphasizes a sense of general unity and urban orientation. At night th... More

The Vienna Terraces are one of the new design measures developed in the Vienna Valley Urban Development Plan that addresses the urgent localized need to provide more public open space for the 5th and 6th Viennese districts. Bridging over the entrenched U4 subway line, the terraces expand the existing public space directly to the edge of the Vienna River. The pedestrian and cycling routes along the south bank of the Vienna River are reconceived as a welcoming, linear public space with recreational and social qualities. The design elements and materiality, i.e. abundant planters, natural vegetation and integrated wooden seating, invite public use while also fostering a positive connection with nature and water recreation. Overall, the project... More

Project • By BEHF ArchitectsShowrooms

An age-old alliance between art and the inherent beauty that exists in nature has been a source of inspiration for BEHF Architects when designing the ARTSPACE. The centre of the concept is an arts depot nestled smoothly into a lush greenery on top of an existing residential building facing an inner courtyard. The starting point for the design has been to convert the conventionally built existing space into the arts depot and amplify its connection with the surroundings through the use of materials. By exploring the conflict between openness and enclosure, the architects have developed a design strategy that blurs the traditional boundaries between inside and outside.A minimalist cubicle in a striking, vivid flame red colour has been placed a...
