Mraz & Sohn

„Très chic, very raw and pure, a little punk yet cosy“  is how one of Austria’s most-read newspapers recently described the result of the renovation process that took place at Mraz & Sohn. The renowned Viennese fine dining restaurant, celebrated for its unconventional approach to haute cuisine, has received an interior update by BÜRO KLK. David Schreyer   “Family restaurant with no borders” is the self-proclaimed company slogan, and by all means – they mean it. Kitchen, service and atmosphere is out of the ordinary. Located in an unpretentious corner building in Vienna Brigittenau, guests have to ring the bell before entering, just like when visiting friends for dinner. On... More

Village im Dritten – Eurogate Vienna

Urban context Village im Dritten (Village in the third district) is a newly developed quarter between Landstraßer Gürtel and Otto-Preminger-Straße in the north-east, with a park for everyone in the middle. The Gürtelbogen, a two-storey commercial building, shields the residential complex behind it from the heavily frequented Gürtel. The guiding idea of “climate-resilient district development” focuses on parks, façade greening, roof gardens and percolating pavements, but also on social sustainability. Site 7, which was developed by Dietrich | Untertrifaller together with Artec, is located in the middle of the Quartierstrasse, exactly opposite the passage to the Gürtel. Our project owes its... Living in the Arts and Cultural Quarter

Along the “Gastgebgasse” in Liesing, a new residential quarter with a total of 430 subsidised apartments is being built in the immediate vicinity of the Sargfabrik and the planned Bildungscampus Atzgersdorf. The southernmost district of Vienna strives for more art and culture. We have therefore developed our concept for the Kuku 23 residential quarter with the aim of providing an affordable cultural program, especially for children and young people. Art, culture and creativity run as a common thread and interweave these supporting pillars with meaningful, small-scale, affordable developments on the cultural level with the Sargfabrik and the Bildungscampus. Neighbourhood institutions such as a music and dance school, workshops,... More

DC3 Tower

The tower in Vienna’s Donauplatte area complements the towers DC 1 and DC 2 by Dominique Perrault and offers 832 apartments for temporary living. The 100-meter-high building is connected on several levels to the existing Donaucity quarter as well as to the transport network via public plazas and paths. The projections of the three-dimensionally warped façade elements correspond to cozy alcoves, which frame the view of the Danube and the city in every room. Dietrich Untertrifaller Urban Context The narrow property – hardly more than a traffic island, surrounded by Wagramerstraße, motorway access and underground line – presented us with great planning challenges. But the attractive location on the Danube... More

Café Bellaria

Prominently situated, between Museumsquartier, Volkstheater and Ringstraße, Vienna’s Café Bellaria has been considered a meeting point for coffee lovers, gourmands and bon vivants since 1870. David Schreyer The renovation of the Wilhelminian style venue by BURO KLK preserves the historical architecture, creating an authentic relationshipbetween traditional and contemporary elements. Starting with the open floor plan, the venue is conceptualized as a vast space for encounters based on the tradition of Viennese coffeehouses infused with modern elements. David Schreyer Taking inspiration from the literal meaning of the term “Bellaria” – meaning „pleasant air“ &nda... More

DU Office Flachgasse – Apartments

The former factory of metal objects Grünwald, built in 1907, was first transformed into a designer furniture store by Matthäus Jiszda in 1981. The building was once again restructured to house the offices of the Viennese branch of Dietrich | Untertrifaller. It has also been enhanced by two floors to offer a penthouse and two spacious apartments. Bruno Klomfar Bruno Klomfar The alignment recess is due to the load distribution of the cross-laminated beam-to-wall structure. The plan of the apartments adapts to these structural constraints and takes advantage of them: the supports on the central supporting wall and on the existing dividing walls allow clearing free levels as well as large windows on all the west facade of t... House H, Langenzersdorf

On the eastern edge of an extremely narrow site, this two story building is settled between two single-family houses. Road side, the garage with storage room slides into the slope forming a significant, typical boundary. A lateral concrete staircase leads into a narrow path that develops the property and leads to the house. Caption Caption The basement partly sticks out of the slope, giving way to the weatherproof main entrance, guest and children’s rooms and accomodating sanitary facilities as well as cellar and building services room. A staircase leads to the spacious, light-flooded living-dining-cooking area on the first floor. From the south-facing, largely covered terrace you can reach the garden in the upper part of t... More

Yves Salomon Shanghai

BIENENSTEIN CONCEPTS was asked to envision the new YVES SALOMON store at the prestigious luxury shopping mall Plaza 66 in Shanghai, China.  While developing this new store concept for the more sportive clothing line that is part of the Yves Salomon brand, a dynamic curved wall line slicing through vertical planes became the core architectural gesture. The void that develops behind the bend allows for additional space for a fitting room, concealed cash desk area or back-of-house functions, depending on the actual available layout.Modern simplicity was key for the interior architects with the aim to create an open, airy backdrop for the diverse clothing collection. Rough, textured surfaces were superposed with more sophisticated and soft... More

City Park Suites

Conceived in the spirit of exclusive hotel suites, the compact apartments on the exclusive Parkring boulevard in the city centre, cater to out-of-towners as well as they serve as Viennese pied-a-terre to foreigners.  BIENENSTEIN CONCEPTS accepted the challenge to turn a former office space into highly functional yet detailed and luxurious apartment suites. The design concept for the interiors centres on the creation of a clean spatial geometry that defines the spaces and a refined palette of muted yet warm materials. Wildruf A wealth of functional and aesthetic details, like thin shadow gaps that trace the intersection of walls or built-in storage and ceilings, articulate and enhance the interior spaces. House in the vineyards

The unique site of the house on a steep slope on the outskirts of Vienna captivates with a fantastic panoramic view over vineyards and local mountains to the Danube. With this in mind, we and the client pursued the goal of bringing this scenery into the house and making it a tangible experience.  Marc Lins Marc Lins Marc Lins A 36-meter-long glazed beam with an external graphite-grey steel structure floats 12 meters above the massive base, cantilevering freely. On the street side, the garage with storage and technical rooms is pushed into the slope. A staircase and an elevator provide access to the three floors. Taking the stairs, the wide overhang of the upper floor forms an inviting, covered entrance area that can als... More

Gudrunstraße

Fifty business apartments and six offices were constructed in a new building on an empty lot in Vienna. The first phase focused on supporting work for the necessary rededication. In further phases optimal light conditions were achieved by orienting all of the apartments facing South-East. Noise pollution was reduced by the same measure, since the orientation towards a more quiet side street acted as natural sound abatement. The building's facade is comprised of stacked traditional Viennese Schrebergardens (small, intmate garden communities), expressing a strong character in terms of urban development in a neighborhood characterized by predominantly commercial use.  More

BEL & MAIN Vienna Austria

An ensemble of three high-rise buildings has been completed on the basis of a competition for the development of a new district next to Vienna’s Central Station that was won by Delugan Meissl Associated Architects in 2015.  The buildings are connected by a base that defines the edges of the plot and lends the external appearance of the quarter a decidedly urban tone. This is reinforced by the fact that, rather than using individual gestures such as cantilevered balconies or small-scale mesh as a means of differentiating the façades of the three building elements that they developed, DMAA employed an organising grid and homogeneous colour scheme in order to combine the individual volumes into a major urban form.  The... Apartment H.

BEHF Architects has transformed the interior of a historical bel étage apartment from the Gründerzeit era located in the heart of the historic centre of Vienna, only a few minutes walk from St. Stephen’s Cathedral.   The architects have created a home with a series of spacious spaces and carefully completed and restored unique parts of the original design such as floors, ceilings and doors. The apartment that boasts a mix of contemporary and historical features consists of bright, high-ceilinged rooms with parquet floorings which add detail and texture to the space. The walls of the entire apartment are painted white and feature the original stuccos which are preserved.    Behind the doors, every room ha... More

Hotel Altstadt Vienna

The rooms and suites in the 1902 Hotel Altstadt Vienna are varied and unique. Thanks to this diversity and the extensive collection of contemporary art, the hotel in Vienna’s vibrant seventh district is widely considered a hotbed of creativity. In 2014 Archisphere added two rooms with the intention of reflecting this.   Whether designed by an international architect such as Matteo Thun or a contemporary fashion icon of the caliber of Lena Hoschek—no two rooms in the Hotel Altstadt Vienna are identical. However, they all have one thing in common: Vienna’s well-known and widely praised comfort and atmosphere. Part of the goal of Archisphere’s design was to complement the colorful spectrum to be found here with a... More
