The building plot featured a natural slope and was located on the outskirts of Lamporecchio, at the junction of two roads leading toward the town center.
The previous owner anticipated future development by modifying the site's original topography. By adding fill, he created a level platform that improved views and increased privacy from the street. This elevated, panoramic corner serves as the conceptual starting point for a project focused on engaging with the surrounding landscape while maintaining the privacy requested by the client. A living white sculpture in a suburbia context.
The urban allotment of Quinta do Desembargador, located in the municipality of Almada, is nestled within a suburban landscape shaped by the evolving social and urban dynamics surrounding Lisbon/Portugal. This has created a built environment that significantly influences the architecture and overall territory. Characterized by small-sized lots and compact constructions that lack a strong connection with the outdoor spaces, the allotment presents certain limitations. However, it is precisely within these constraints that the most innovative solutions can emerge. Casa em Calvos, Guimarães, Portugal
The house is situated on the outskirts of Guimarães, within a planned housing development. The principles of this plan were respected to keep continuity in its design approach. Its corner position and the slope from northwest to south dictated the layout: a concrete basement, housing the garage and technical areas, defines a platform for a regular white volume above.

Saramagal House
Starting from an empty lot, in a neighbourhood without a defined identity, the result of a suburban context resulting from the absence of territorial policies for decades on the outskirts of Lisbon, it's like starting a process of metamorphosis, without harming the surroundings. We also know that our intervention will have an impact on the cohesion of the urban fabric, and the visual quality of this neighbourhood, and as such, we saw this responsibility as an opportunity to do things better and differently, always keeping in mind what we were asked to do: design a modern house that takes advantage of the landscape that characterizes this place.
