Project Overview Compassion International is a Christian charity focused on improving the lives of children living in poverty worldwide. The organization faced challenges related to local in-office demand at their headquarters in Denver, CO, and the need for a space that could accommodate global business functions and local non-profits. Capital One’s new Tyson’s Corner, VA headquarters is - by design - a multi-skyscraper campus that adds to the region’s skyline and includes infrastructure updates to the surrounding trafficways, multi-use residential and commercial spaces, and a 1.5 acre greenspace for public use. The primary goal of the project is to co-locate the company’s 7000 local employees to a single campus and enhance their work-life balance while reducing or eliminating commuting. The Bower Activities Center (BAC) introduces a light-filled hub of activity and care programs to the pastoral campus of Youth Villages in the city of Bartlett, an outlying suburb of Memphis, TN.  Youth Villages, “a nationally recognized leader in the field of childrens' mental and behavioral health,” provides residential, academic, and developmental services for children and teens with “emotional, mental, and behavioral problems.”  Initially designed to house only the Food With Class program –  an educational class where teens learn to develop teamwork and professional skills in a commercial kitchen setting – and a few other support services, the scope of the design quickly grew as Youth Vi... The restaurant is located on the outskirts of Santiago. The client wanted an environment that incorporated wood as the predominant material, and that it was a more sophisticated meeting place than it was then (a somewhat rural area). Much of the wood was contributed by the client and was used both in the floor and wall coverings and in the furniture.   One of the biggest challenges was building the ceiling. As the existing height was low, we had to see how to incorporate all the facilities in a minimum of space so as not to further decrease the height. The project was proposed for a young family, who desired an open plan home that embraced the views of the bay and a connection to the existing garden. The design consists of channeling or framing the views from the West side of the property into the house and through to the garden area on the East side. Enveloping the open plan common space in a wood tube becomes the connector between the garden and viewing deck.The property has large redwood trees at the two longitudinal sides of the property, thus channeling ones focus from the front garden area to the to back views. Minnesota's newest, 405,000 sq. foot high school designed by Perkins + Will (formerly Rozeboom Miller Architects) opened September 2009. Complete with a new football stadium, 2 practice fields, 8 tennis courts, 650-seat theater, and open cafeteria, the $93 million campus also features 4 wings or "houses" allowing students to focus on core classes with one set of instructors for a two-year period. The architect envisioned a warm, real-wood ceiling for Chanhassen's new high school.
