Deakin Law School Building by Woods Bagot conceived as a campus lighthouse

The new Deakin Law School Building in Melbourne by Woods Bagot is described by principal Sarah Ball as ‘intentionally non-institutional and as a ‘campus lighthouse.’  Peter Bennetts The five-level building includes flexible, active learning spaces in a move away from the traditional lecture theatre typology. Technology bars, group pods and individual spaces for connection or private study offer both a sense of formality and informality. The building’s arresting geometry derives from the mix of non-traditional learning spaces contained within. In support of student health and wellbeing, two levels of the building are entirely designated as places for student retreat and contemplation on campus.   Arch-Exist 1. Garden Hotpot Restaurant by MUDA-Architects In total, the building has a circumference of 290 meters, with the height of 3 meters, and the width varies with the natural environment. The platform is made of anti-corrosive wood, and the roof is made of galvanized steel sheet, coated with white fluorocarbon paint, which complements the surrounding lush environment. A series of steel columns with a diameter of 88 mm is used as the supporting structure, and it blends into the straight trunks of eucalyptus trees and disappears into nature. Shearwaters

Shearwaters is a replacement dwelling in the Pembrokeshire Town of Tenby. It is located on the southern side of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The site is located at a cliff top boasting panoramic views from Tenby to the west and the Bristol channel to the south. The brief was to create a contemporary 5-bedroom dwelling that was unique but complementing of the typical pitched roof vernacular of the area. The design developed out of a series of detailed studies into the local roof forms, pitches and relationships between geometries. The plan spreads east and west to the boundaries of the long and narrow site to maximise the size of the front and rear gardens. A ground floor form containing the dining and living spaces reaches out to th... More

The Farmer's House

The Farmer’s House acts as the UK base for AR Design Studio’s clients, who return to the English countryside from their travels to tend to their farmstead. Set on a private estate in the most western part of the South Downs National Park, the house’s rural location is its raison d’etre. AR Design Studio were approached by the clients who were looking to add a completely self-contained yet joined annexe, that would be a space for their children and grandchildren to ‘take over’ when they were staying. The team at AR Design Studio proposed an extension and makeover that would wrap everything together in a unified and elegant form. The old and new are joined by a glazed link that sits between the existing house and the new annexe.... More

The District Court in Alingsås

We have designed an extension to the Alingsås District Court from 1899, clad entirely in zinc. The jury for the PLÅT prize considered that it was so spectacular and unique that they gave us the award. What do you zinc? The District Court in Alingsås is a typical brick building from 1899, designed by architect Adrian Crispin Pettersson. It is placed a few of blocks from the town centre in a district lined with large villas and a school from the early twentieth century. In the second half of the 1950s a wing in brick was added. Just over half a century later it was time for the next extension, designed by Tengbom. A new epic date was added to Alingsås District Court’s history when we were awarded the PLÅT prize for 2016 for this extension... More
