In Italy, the seventies were a time of freedom, transgression and political struggles. There was an outbreak of creativity and a desire for progress at all costs. In this context, even the style of furniture changed remarkably, becoming simpler yet more functional. In 1968, Sante Vittorio Cester’s workshop was transformed into a modern furniture factory called Cesar Arredamenti, one of the first Italian companies to produce American-style kitchens, i.e. modular, versatile and dynamic, fitted kitchens. This is how “Classico ’70” was born, a model that combined traditional-style cabinets with modern household appliances. So, while in the USA they were perfecting the first mouse, Cesar’s factory engineers were improving the efficiency of the company’s production process which was increasingly more based on the interaction between skilled workers and technological equipment.
