Located on an elongated plot in the residential district of Politeia, Athens, the residence is conceived as a composition of volumes arranged around a central courtyard with a swimming pool. The U-shaped configuration creates a protected outdoor living environment that forms the heart of the house, bringing together the living spaces while ensuring privacy from the surrounding urban context.
A landscaped entrance garden and a continuous timber screen define the street frontage, creating a gradual transition from the public realm to the private domain of the residence. Towards the street, the building presents a controlled and relatively solid appearance, while towards the courtyard it opens through large glazed surfaces that dissolve the boundary between interior and exterior spaces.
All living and dining areas are located on the ground floor and enjoy direct access to the courtyard and pool area.
The upper floor accommodates three bedrooms and bathrooms and is accessed via a linear staircase and a lift , leading to a naturally lit hall. A continuous balcony extends along the eastern façade, connecting the bedrooms with outdoor living areas and planted roof terraces.
Architecturally, the upper level is expressed as a suspended timber-clad volume that projects beyond the ground floor, creating sheltered entrance areas and reinforcing the strong horizontal composition of the building. Vertical timber louvers articulate selected sections of the façade, providing privacy, solar protection and depth while emphasizing the geometric clarity of the overall form.
The basement level accommodates the garage, service spaces and a gym that benefits from natural light and views towards the front garden.
The central design concept revolves around the creation of a secluded internal courtyard that functions as the social and spatial nucleus of the residence. Protected from the adjacent street, it offers a calm environment where indoor and outdoor activities unfold around the swimming pool. Living, dining and relaxation areas are seamlessly connected to the landscape, encouraging year-round outdoor living.
The relationship between architecture and nature is further reinforced through extensive planting and planted roofs .
Together, these elements create a lush and private environment, enhancing the sense of retreat within the urban fabric.
Materially, the project combines textured grey-beige rendered surfaces with warm timber cladding and vertical wooden screens. Dark charcoal tones are applied to recessed surfaces and soffits, accentuating shadows and strengthening the perception of depth.
The result is a residence defined by clarity of form, carefully filtered views and a strong connection between architecture, landscape and outdoor living.
