We are TEAM TONBO. A small architecture studio run by two architects: Ruud Visser (NL) and Fumi Hoshino (JP).
Tonbo means dragonfly in Japanese. And like a dragonfly, we move through the design and building process: agile, quickly on site, forward and backward, up and down. For us, designing and building are not separate phases, but one continuous process.
Precisely because we are small, we are fully engaged in our design approach. Our design process is a workshop, together with our clients. At a later stage, the structural engineer, building physicist and contractor join in. We do not work top-down, but simultaneously from large to small and from detail to concept. Back and forth, again and again, always searching for the optimum. And that is reflected in our designs.
This is how we create architecture that is adventurous, unexpected and poetic. Architecture that moves. Like a TONBO.
