Hosoya Schaefer Architects

Hosoya Schaefer Architects is a Zurich-based practice for architecture, urban design, and research, founded in 2003 by Markus Schaefer and Hiromi Hosoya. In 2019, Alexander Kneer joined as the third partner. Their work is based on a commitment to creating a tangible, resilient and sustainable common future. With strong competence in architecture, urban design, and systemic thinking, they realize platforms for collaboration—providing a working place for a specific assemblage of architects and experts. In doing so, they cross scale differences and boundaries bridging the academic discourse and the architectural practice. As a team of about thirty people, Hosoya Schaefer Architects work on a wide range of projects from the design and redevelopment of urban quarters to infrastructure hubs, public buildings, airports, schools, housing projects, and transformation of existing buildings. They have won numerous international awards and built a rich oeuvre of diverse projects that testify their ability to design buildings avoiding unnecessary complications while prioritizing attention to people.
