Being almost a square and comprising 100m2, the floor plan results from the fusion of two rectangular office spaces, from which only the existing toilets remain.
Aside from the meeting room, the demand had always been for three lawyers’ private offices, which allowed various possibilities for internal distribution. However, the final solution resulted from a problem that seemed impossible at first: the addition of a fourth private office.
Given the new demand – a pair number of offices and the same area to accommodate the whole program –, a symmetrical composition seemed appropriate, and this was already suggested by the original square format and twin existing toilets. But now every inch was indispensable.
The solution was found by angulating the internal partitions, which provides additional space to the offices and distributes enough area to all other compartments. The formal precedent for this operation was found on the floor plans of the apartments of Edificio en la Barceloneta, designed by the Catalans Josep Antoni Coderch and Manuel Valls (1951-54).
Given that, the four offices orbit around a central space, to which all doors open and gives place to a management workplace and the open kitchen. This core also connects the two entrances – reception and a secondary way-out –, meeting room, and data processing center, disposed on either symmetrical or equivalent manner.
The result is the complete solution of the functional demands, adopting a balanced composition that provides unexpected architectural experiences, either for internal users or visitors.
