Casa Amaranto

Casa Amaranto

Casa Amaranto is the renewal of an early 1950s Milanese apartment. The redistribution of spaces takes place through two main expedients: the first is the creation of a walk-in closet between the main bedroom and the living area; the volume, conceived as a box, characterizes both spaces becoming a sculptural satin coloured element with iridescent reflections.

The second reorganization device consists of a set of two openings at full height, that can be closed by two large sliding oak wood panels. If necessary, the kitchen, the bedroom and the living room can be divided, otherwise they constitute one continuous visually interconnected space.

The old Venetian Terrazzo floors (Palladiana) of the sleeping area are recovered, while the remaining stone pavement, significantly compromised and no longer responsive to the new configuration, is replaced by porcelain stoneware planks. The regular texture and the neutral and homogeneous gray of the latter is opposed to the "messy" warm colors composition of the original recovered surfaces. This game of contrasts between old and new transforms the need to recover the old radiators in a further design opportunity.

The harmony between opposites is then obtained through chromatic choices that generate continuous references between architectural finishes and furnishings.

The heart of the house is certainly the living/dining room, where the fireplace and the large suspension lamp, at the two ends of the space, play a fundamental role in the composition of stereometric forms that characterizes the whole environment. The woodshed and the bookcase participate in the compositional game too.

Particular attention is paid to technological systems: the fireplace in fact is energy efficient and it can integrate the heater thanks to a system of built-in air pipelines bringing the warmth to the main rooms. The same boards also integrate lighting systems and retractable air conditioners.
