Casa Valentini
At the third floor of the family home from the 1950s where the family of architect Francesco Valentini has been living since, this attic was originally divided into rooms as if it were to be made habitable, but was never completed.Before the renovation, the parcelling of the space was strict and the rooms clearly separated, with a load-bearing wall running along the entire floor plan. In order to remedy this division that made the place cramped and unlivable, the architect decided to intervene by knocking down all the walls in the living area and rationalising the sleeping area. Existing holes between the two were retained and no new separations were built.

Casa Amaranto
Casa Amaranto is the renewal of an early 1950s Milanese apartment. The redistribution of spaces takes place through two main expedients: the first is the creation of a walk-in closet between the main bedroom and the living area; the volume, conceived as a box, characterizes both spaces becoming a sculptural satin coloured element with iridescent reflections.

In Taipei City, Taiwan, this residence by AODADesign takes into account the activity and needs of five cats while providing an elegant and comfortable living space for humans.

Design comparisons are drawn to the classics of modernism including the ‘Glass House’ by Phillip Johnson and the ‘Farnsworth House’ by Mies van der Rohe.

Sitting low to the water, the small home acts as a platform for engaging with the surrounding waterway. The Garden Room by Objekt Architecten is a transformation of a 2-car garage into a space where inhabitants can retreat and enjoy the peaceful quality of their garden. At the same time, the requirement for covered parking remained.

The original house features an L-shape that embraces the existing terrace. With the addition of a new volume, Objekt Architecten has enclosed the area to the eastern side of the site, thus forming a U-shaped patio.
