This project was designed in collaboration with Nick Milkovich Architects and targeted to achieve LEED Platinum standards. The project was completed for interim use by VANOC as an Olympic facility in the Athletes Village. Along with a full-size gymnasium, three multi-purpose rooms, and fitness facilities, the new waterfront community centre will also provide a daycare, as well as boating and restaurant facilities, serving as a key community amenity for this new neighborhood evolving on the Southeast False Creek waterfront. The curved plan of the building embraces a public waterfront plaza that will allow a number of shared outdoor activities. The waterfront plaza connects to the street through the two storey atrium lobby of the building. Sustainable building features for this project include radiant heating throughout, hot water solar collectors, an extensive green roof, rainwater harvesting, and reduced architectural finishes. The building was designed to ensure abundant daylight and natural ventilation to every occupiable space. It is currently projected for final completion in July 2010.
