House B
CORDULA DE BLOEME

House B

SAME BUT DIFFERENT. In the middle of a post-war settlement in the west of Munich stands a simple house on a small plot. Urbanistically integrated cleanly into the rhythm of the neighbouring buildings, it is in rank and file – and yet steps out of line. The monolithic cubature, characterized by the asymmetrical gabled roof, integrates all uses in a concise design. In a balancing act between tight building regulation requirements and the desire for large spatial and creative freedoms, a three-storey building with a lot of space on a very small area and a characteristic silhouette was developed. The street façade meets the gridded rigour of the surrounding area with a free play of different apertures, whereas the southern façade surprises with high transparency. Clearly zoned layouts serve the needs of a young family and link the house with the garden. A subtle colour and material concept allows the rooms to appear clear and generous; built-in furniture supports the functional component of the concept.

Maximum freedom in a small space.
