Serving over 20,000 patrons daily, the Ashmont Station is the southern terminus to the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority's Red Line and the intermodal interchange with the Mattapan High Speed trolley and several major urban bus routes. C7A's redesign of the station created a large open train room with clear sightlines throughout for improved safety and wayfinding. The site was filled in and regraded to accommodate fare lobbies, bus berths, and the trolley platform all on street level, with the Red Line platforms below. A new plaza connects to Peabody Square and is used for a farmer's market on Fridays. Efficiencies gained from the site reconfiguration also enabled the team to carve out a 38,000 sf parcel for a transit-oriented development, which the MBTA leased to a developer.
