Hill Country Contemporary

Upon my first meeting with this newlywed couple, they told me "We like contemporary things, but we don't want to be over the top." We took the Texas Hill Country Contemporary Design from the Architect and used it as our guide for a soft contemporary feel. The young couple was planning (and have since) to start a family and wanted things to be kid friendly and easy to clean. To start, they had a fear of color, so we decided to go with a neutral pallet for the flooring, decorative tiles and main furniture pieces and bring the color in with art and accessories. Having the latest technology was more important to them than anything else. The house has a full Lutron Homeworks System complete with lighting scenes, touch screens, security and AV throughout the house all wired back to one Systems closet. LED recessed cans and solar panels were installed as well to help cut electricity costs.

We decided to take an “architectural” feel to the lighting selections, plumbing fixtures and even incorporated concrete countertops in the powder and kitchen island to compliment the architects’ vision. We carried this into the furniture as well by selecting an Eames designed chair for the office and using simple, clean lined furniture that blends with the architecture rather than trying to upstage it. The end product was a very comfortable, yet architectural house that the client loves to call their own.
