Any design hurdles? There were a few challenges William Garvey had to overcome with this project, with one being the need for adjustable shelving with integral lighting. This element required free movement of both the shelves and LED lights from one position to another, without effecting operation when in a new position. 100% bespoke, this design detail was not in existence at time of specification and so had to be exclusively designed by Bill Garvey who made a discreet furniture system that remains completely invisible from view.
Any unique design details? Overcoming the need for moveable working shelves with integrated lighting led to a unique design detail where the natural grain of walnut and angled LED light slots coincide with subtle mimicry. In addition, the soft accent lighting naturally depicts the vertical grain of the wood to accentuate the beauty of both form and function.
Bill Garvey, Managing Director at William Garvey says “This unique angled LED light slot design was hugely time consuming for us, requiring great care and a high level of accuracy. Nevertheless, the end results powerfully added to the overall effect of ‘a perfectly integrated interior’ which the architect, Brian Ma Siy, was trying to achieve.”
Trendsetting: This one project alone captures William Garvey’s high aptitude for the design and creation of bespoke wooden furniture. For instance, the progressive nature of the modern linear furniture met with the straight grain of Walnut that retains a more traditional look, demonstrates how transitional design continues to be big in interiors. Conversely, the distinct mix of materials also defines this residential project, welcoming a blend of quality raw wooden furniture met with stark glacier coloured solid surfaces to create varying tone and texture for the height of tangibility.
