The Eyrie

The design concept was to give the building the appearance of an original grand homestead - while simultaneously introducing a contemporary loft style addition.

The existing conditions on this renovation project were fairly un-inspiring. A decision was made to demolish any areas that were ineffective or cumbersome. The original curved staircase was transformed into a serene sculptural element with Blackbutt battens in front of existing curved windows, casting a magical display of shadows throughout the day.

Black Glass lines the lounge media wall and reflects the elevated views from the opposing windows. Garaging is disguised in a Black Alucobond form extending from the front facade, in a ribbon like formation that mimics the curved staircase within. The black ribbon wall appears again at the rear where it creates a privacy screen to the pool area.

Part demolition has exposed the swimming pool to the outdoors and a carefully considered layout has transformed the original into a functional and livable family home.
