XEÚL: A Korean Fine-Dining and Norebang Setting for Mexico City

WORC como Arquitectos

It is a restaurant that opens its doors in Miyana, Polanco designed by the Mexican office WORC in collaboration with Aparente whose concept arises from recreating the authentic flavors of Korean food in Mexico City. This project serves as a setting to share among friends, immersing visitors in this vast culture through the design and gastronomy of fine dining.

Upon entering, guests are greeted by a fusion of Seoul's modernity and Mexico City's eclectic charm. In the lobby, the journey announces its beginning through wooden panels that rhythmically overlap, crowned with a series of illuminated signs in the most urban aesthetic of the Korean capital. The interior design features sleek industrial elements reminiscent of Seoul's high-rise architecture and the warmth of Mexican textures and colors. Terrazzo floors soften against wooden floors and metal details reflect the dynamic energy of both cultures.

The restaurant's main dining room reflects the lively streets of the Hongdae neighborhood, with its youthful atmosphere and artistic style. Graffiti-style murals decorate the walls and display a mix of Korean street art. The tables are strategically placed to encourage socialization and a sense of community, reflecting the vibrant gatherings of this iconic neighborhood's famous nightlife. The space vibrates with excitement, as diners enjoy the interactive experience of grilling their own dishes.

Venturing further into the restaurant, guests find themselves in an oasis of tranquility inspired by the serene gardens of Korea. The design pays tribute to traditional elements with wood details and clay contrasts. The semi-private dining rooms are adorned with delicate Korean lanterns, creating an intimate and calm atmosphere. This fusion of urban excitement and calmness retreat makes the restaurant a unique and captivating dining destination in Mexico City.

For those looking for an even more authentic experience, the restaurant features three karaoke rooms, or “norebang” as it is originally called in Korea, each designed to transport guests to a different aspect of Korean culture. One room pays homage to the neon lights and bustling streets of Gangnam, with vibrant furniture and colors. Another room captures the traditional elegance of a living room, with large, comfortable furniture, plus plenty of space to dance. Finally, a third room is set in a complete bathroom, fully decorated, to fulfill the dream of singing in the shower in the company of friends. Each karaoke room offers state-of-the-art sound systems and rigorous construction that ensures the acoustic atmosphere is perfect.

The choice of materials played a crucial role in achieving this goal; The color palette leans towards warm tones: ochres and coppers that generate an interesting contrast with the blacks and grays predominating in the furniture exclusively designed by Veta for the Xeúl concept. The collection was designed to be not only comfortable but also practical and flexible since the furniture is also part of the elements attached to walls, the chairs function as a sculptural piece to open the possibility of offering extra seats if required.
