In the heart of a wild garden in Rotterdam, the Circular Pavilion by Studio ACTE is an experimental, temporary cabin. Expressing that circularity can be an inspiring aesthetic, each material is already reused and harvested from the local area and it is anticipated that the cabin itself will ultimately be recycled.

The architecture dialogues between mass, transparency, time and durability with each element and detail visible from inside and outside, offering a permanent dialogue with the garden.

The aesthetic of the rammed earth base emphasises the contrast between natural and artificial materials. It is the first time that rammed earth is been used in Rotterdam, an opportunity to demonstrate its quality and aesthetic. Built with recycled earth from Bruxelles (Kastar), the rammed earth walls support the entire structure and as a raw material can be used to rebuild a new wall or create garden walls as desired.

The concrete bricks and mortar used come from a local garden while the acrylate, which was reclaimed from a chicken farm, can be perceived as glass, reflecting the colour of the sky or showing the continuity of the structure from outside to inside.

An aluminium roof floats above, further revealing the timber structure and the transparent nature of the façade.
