Striking black and white combinations create a visual identity for Coiffeur Mehmet Ozen Hair Design Studio in Alanya, Turkey, designed and implemented by Qubicum Architecture and Design Studio.

With a much more industrial and rough aesthetic, the original 1990s building was first constructed for use as a storage facility. Coiffeur Mehmet Ozen Hair Design Studio converted this into a hair salon in 2014.

While the first space was designed for men as a simple room, with huge arching columns from ground to ceiling creating bridges from one wall to the other, the second is planned for children and the third space for women. The studio houses a bathroom, manicure and pedicure room, epilation room and private safe boxes amongst other hair salon staples.

This is the first conceptual hair design salon in Alanya, encapsulating three key elements- "infinite space, conceptual design and different feelings", described by the interior architect Can Baysal and architect Zana Kopitar.

Two striking aspects are the hair cutting units made from dry wall painted in black, and stainless steel cables suspended from the ceiling. In combination with white lighting panels on the ceiling they provide a minimalist yet warm atmosphere. Reflections in the long mirror units and black panels make the space deeper, projecting the illusion of a larger space whilst reflecting the glamorous studio area.
