FILA protects Garden of Contemplation at iconic Museum

FILA protects Garden of Contemplation at iconic Museum

A surface protection system, from FILA’s award-winning Green Line, has been specified at the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, in Winnipeg. Created by Design Architect, Antoine Predock and Executive Architect, Architecture49, the iconic, eco-focusedmuseum occupies a site of around 261,500 square feet and comprises 11 galleries over seven levels. The high performance, solvent-freeprotector - FILAFOB ECO - was chosen to provide safe and effective stain protection on basalt stone throughout the Museum’s Garden of Contemplation. It was specified by Picco Engineering and supplied/installed by Stone Contractor, Brxton Construction LP for Main Construction Manager, PCL Construction. Located on a site that has been a meeting place for Indigenous Peoples for thousands of years, near the forks of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers, the national museum is the first to have been built outside the capital. Its distinct design – which was designed to LEED Silver standards - features glass, limestone, steel and concretewhich wrap around and cocoonthe building’s exterior. The light-filled Stuart Clark Garden of Contemplation sits in an atrium beneath the massive glass “Cloud” and the spiral staircase leading to the shining Tower of Hope; vertical and horizontal surfaces, formed from over 600 tones of black basalt stone, fill the space.

VOC-free FILAFOB ECO was specified to protect the volcanic basalt stone, without altering its distinct charcoal tone or forming a surface film. The high performance ready-to-use solution is designed for the safe treatment of polished and unpolished stone and concrete – in internal and external locations – and provides protection against oil and water based stains. It has GEV-EMICODE® - ec1 Plus certification, contributes towards LEED creditsand is certified food safe. It can be used alongside aesthetic wax treatments, including FILAMATT and FILASATIN.Treatment for polished/unpolished stone and concrete is available in the UK and Irish markets using FILAMP90 Eco Plus, which has been tested and confirmed for use on these substrates.
