Background
Café Galletti is a family business and brand dedicated to the production and commercialization of specialty coffee from Ecuador. They are looking for coffee shops to be closer and closer to their users, that is the reason for their expansion. This last coffee shop is located in a commercial plaza in Quito.
Request
The customers' request is that each Galletti's location should be an experience. The industrial design and the language of materiality: wood and metal, are present in all the stores but respond differently to each site. One of the requirements for this cafeteria was to make the most of the space for the exhibition of products, as well as the tasting and the work that Galletti's users normally do.
Concept
We have used furniture as the main tool for delimitation, this allows us to generate permeable and flexible limits, open spaces that are perceived as larger and more welcoming. Therefore, we opted for a multipurpose piece of furniture, which functions as an exhibitor for products, a bar for tasting and delimitation between the preparation and service areas. This furniture allows to organize in an optimal and efficient way all the necessary areas in the store.
Final project
A structure of wooden slats and galvanized threaded rods form the cabinet, the rods hang from the main metal structure and have vertical wooden reinforcements. This also frames the preparation area and allows the structuring of a tasting bar. A coworking area was also needed inside the cafeteria, which is defined by folding metal doors incorporating the brand's color in the detail.
Galletti also chose art as an activity of interaction within the cafeteria. The building generates several teeth in the walls, due to the configuration of the main structure, we use these surfaces to project a mini gallery with a rail system and hanging hooks for artworks that change every so often, giving a space for local and international artists to exhibit their work.
