The company MDM LIGHT has created the lighting system project for public areas of unusual hybrid of hostel and hotel – Netizen (Net + Citizen). This is a new format in the HoReCa segment, designed to receive more than 250 guests. Rooms include characteristic hostel shared dormitories with bunk beds and family rooms, as in a conventional hotel. As noted by Eugene Jenkins, head of Netizen project, the concept of a new design hostel has been developed on the basis of market research of hotel market in Moscow and St. Petersburg, as well as of Europe's largest hostelling networks. Although the financial and investment model is similar to the hotel's, here we are talking about a fundamentally different target audience. These are world citizens, preferring the youth and informal lifestyle. That is why there was Netizen name - the term appeared in the mid-1990s to describe modern «citizens» of the World Wide Web. This concept is reflected in the interior design of the rooms and public areas of the new hostel. The project investor, Cyril Jakubowski emphasized that the hostel's public spaces function as a coworking. This created a proper environment, there are plenty of electrical outlets for recharging gadgets, Internet at a rate sufficient for video conferencing on Skype, it is possible to hold business meetings, etc. This hostel location also says more about its business appointment: it is not in a residential area, but in the business center Golden Gate, which also placed the headquarters of the management company of the same name. Investors believe that this format will attract a large number of foreign visitors who will arrive in Moscow on such major international events, like the World Championships in football and hockey. Cyril Jakubowski says, that there is no secret, that because of the economical crisis much of the equipment for a design hostel, such as furniture, lighting solutions and automated central system of ventilation and air conditioning were purchased not abroad as first assumed, but from Russian suppliers. This allowed investors to save considerably financial funds without damage to the quality of technical equipment of interior design.
