King David Suite

Located in the King David luxury tower on penthouse of the Dan Hotel Tel Aviv, the architect & interior designer Roy David, founder of the ROY DAVID STUDIO, presented design practice with the perfect opportunity to execute & realize the firm’s design philosophy and beliefs. Approached by the client to design and reconstruct their existing apartment, the studio began the design process by keeping in mind the client’s aspiration to achieve a modern and minimalistic, yet timeless design which will eventually transform the asset into a luxury apartment for foreign diplomats.

"While approaching this project, I wanted to emphasize the relaxing color palette of the sea so it would inspire its future residents and become part of their daily routine" says David. The initial interior design of the apartment included a huge balcony which was not proportional to the overall space and was left unused for majority of the time. The designer made over to the structure of the existing apartment, successfully transforming the balcony into a large cutting edge living room. By doing so, the designer managed to turn this apartment into a comfortable modern accommodation.

The master & guests suites were enlarged, and smart house technologies such as automatic lighting systems, electric curtains and double glazed UV filters windows with an internal electric shading system were implemented.

The 110 sqm apartment (ceiling height: 2.8 meters) is currently owned by a well-known Sumi-e Painter whoembraced the minimalist design approach. Upon entering the space, one is impressed by the clean pearl white walls & ceiling, clear light gray granite tile flooring, both serving the modern style.

Most of the furniture and décor elements in the apartment were custom-made for the client; mostly crafted from natural hickory wood integrated with black granite and brass. The material palette that was chosen dictates a use of minimalism and luxury yet warm atmospheric approach. The living room is furnished with an iconic Eames couch, an ancient Persian rug and a multi-plate coffee table which allows the occupant to comfortably host a variety of guests.

The glass dining table legs also align with the designer's concept for the space, creating a unique floating composition that serves as the crowning jewel of a truly unique design.

The final result was a bottom up transformation of an out-of-date apartment into a contemporary home fully integrated with the hotel's infrastructure and interior structure.
