Mayborn Group: design and build of their new global headquarters

Ben Johnson Interiors en tant que Executive Office.

Mayborn Group has a head office in the North East of England and is the owner of the multi award-winning global baby brand Tommee Tippee – number 1 in the UK and one of the top 5 baby brands worldwide. The company employs 1200 people, with offices and production facilities all over the world.

The company wished to relocate to a new global HQ in North Tyneside, Newcastle upon Tyne to reflect its vision to grow internationally and become the world’s most loved baby company.  This  investment was to provide the business with a spectacular base from where it could develop its global expansion and significantly grow its 170-strong team with high calibre talent.

Yorkshire and North East England company Ben Johnson Interiors was appointed to carry out design, fit-out and furniture supply for Mayborn Group.

The overall concept of the interior design was to support collaborative, agile working and encourage creativity and expression within Mayborn Group.  Throughout the 30,000 sq ft building, Mayborn Group’s brand values, ethos and colours were to be incorporated in a highly engaging way.  The environment was to reflect real parenting and represent a non-uniform existence.  Choice for employees’ and visitors’ working styles and comfort was to be a major consideration throughout.

A spectacular, ground-breaking workplace, poised for the future, was necessary to meet this brief.

Ben Johnson Interiors created a highly engaging reception area using appealing curved designs and brand colours of blue, gold and pink against a clean white background.

Within the ground floor meeting wing Ben Johnson Interiors built a fun “playpark” area with trees, picnic tables and swinging chairs. A giant, illuminated Tommee Tippee logo made from coloured baby bottles makes a fun centrepiece.  There are themed, private meeting rooms based around the global locations of Mayborn. In the breakout wing, comfortableseating zones, café, TVs, pool table, lounge and tiered seating were installed to offer flexibility for informal meetings, group presentations and to allow people to relax during breaks.

The first and second floor working areas - although more “business” orientated – are still aligned to the quirky ground floor.  Each of the business wings has its own striking corporate colour  and provides conventional working desk areas as well as meeting rooms, sound-proofed booths and bright kitchen areas. Each wing has its own name: Play to Win; Be Bold; Take Pride; and Respect Each Other. Typography displaying Mayborn values is displayed throughout.

An abundance of natural light, interior birch trees and views of foliage outside bring calming elements of nature into the office.  The workplace is fully digital with Research & Development labs on site and state-of-the-art conferencing facilities to connect Mayborn Group HQ with its  global markets and teams.

Steve Parkin, CEO for Mayborn Group says: “We are delighted and proud of our new HQ here on Tyneside. The new office gives our employees a fantastic environment as well as providing the kind of space which will help us to attract the right talent to fuel our plans for international growth.”
