New York Design Center

New York Design Center

Polishing An Old Gem: This historic 16-‐story, 500,000-‐square-‐foot building was originally designed by Ely Jacques Kahn. Built in 1926 as the New York Furniture Exchange, the NYDC is the only design center in NY designed for its purpose and never to change hands since its opening in 1926. Located at 200 Lexington Avenue, the NYDC is the country’s oldest furniture and design building. When Conant Architects was contracted to renovate the iconic design center, their goal was simple: uncover the best of what the building originally was and present a fresh, forward-‐looking center that best serves the needs of the design community today.

Introducing 1stdibs@NYDC: This revoluRonary gallery space provides 1stdibs, the country’s largest anRque seller, with their first physical presence in the marketplace. FiTy-‐seven 1stdibs dealers from all over the country, as well as several internaRonal dealers, occupy the enRre tenth floor of the NYDC with 33,000 square feet of fine anRques and 21st century design by Conant Architects. A Refreshed Brand Experience: In celebraRon of their 85th year, the NYDC has taken on a brand new face! With a refreshed logo, brand new website and changes to the physical design center, the NYDC welcomes a new sense of openness and community in 2012.
