In Barcelona, this apartment renovation by Allaround Lab was developed around the sole premise that the young couple who inhabit it wanted a living space that was as open as possible, but at the same time could be compartmentalized into two distinctly different areas.
The concept is intended to allow the pair to work at home and simultaneously undertake different tasks.
In response to this challenge, the architects removed all existing partitions, resulting in an open space traversed by a single volume that contains the entirety of the functional and storage program, thus freeing up the space.
The large void that results is only interrupted by a transversal strip containing the bathroom. This volumetric insertion also serves as a separator to define the main spaces.
Finally, an old gallery was converted to a winter garden, which adds an additional intermediate element between indoors and out. This interstitial space functions as a heat collector in the colder months and as a terrace during warmer times of the year.
