Oxygen architects (Stockholm) and N1 Architects (Oslo), in collaboration with Skanska Sweden won the competition for Gävle's new landmark, a 12-storey residential building in Nyhamn. Gävle invited to the competition. The task was to develop a proposal for a high-rise to emphasize the new residential area Gävle Strand at Nyhamn and serve as a landmark. The winning proposal is built around a few key concepts: urban space, local identity, quality accommodation and city life. The building's location made the promenade at the waterfront public and create a fund for life along the Boulevard Park and the quay. In the ground floor, the building has facilities for such restaurant to help create a vibrant neighborhood. The building is narrow and elongated and resembles a flag. It is divided into vertical field of building materials related to Gävle history both in buildings and industry (wood, sails, porcelain, stone and slag bricks) to create a local connection and identity. The building gets very good light conditions and most apartments have a panoramic view. Smart floorplans offers upscale accommodations qualities.
