Making Together: An architectural retrofit shaped by craft, dialogue, and heritage
Architecture studio Polysmiths has completed the retrofit of a Grade II listed apartment in South Kensington, transforming a dilapidated Edwardian home into a warm, contemporary residence through a highly collaborative process.
The Client, a family with Spanish roots, commissioned Polysmiths as the architect to restore the apartment and adapt it for multi-generational living.
Polysmiths acted as the lead Designer and Maker, developing details hand-in-hand with the makers and designers.
Ideas were tested and refined across disciplines—joiners consulted on detailing, plasterers shaped curved surfaces in conversation with the architects, and interior finishes were selected alongside spatial planning. This open exchange led to a coherent result where no single author is visible.
