The brief for this coastal Sydney garden was to create a contemporary back garden suitable for a growing family. There was a strong focus on casual yet sophisticated outdoor entertaining featuring low maintenance decking & planting. A place for both weekend family time and for the adults to wind down and relax with friends.
The vibe was to be ‘modern chic coastal Sydney’ that encapsulates the essence of Sydney coastal living and the stunning feel of low maintenence coastal planting. The palette of materials includes high quality composite decking for the floor & seating area, large corten steel circulr pots. This complements an existing pool & pergola space.
The biggest design challenge was the 'zig zag' design seating space at the rear of the deck. This not only served as practical seating space for large scale entertaining, but also an architectural landscape design feature serving as the highlight of the whole garden.
The decision was made to elevate some of the feature planting in large corten steel pots. This provided a multi layered design element and a strong Australian native feel to the outdoor space.

A slimline hardwood slat fence was built on top of the back wall - providing effective privacy screening from the rear neighbours. The thin slats are effective without closing in the space and making it look to heavy.
The end result displays a clever use of materials, angles, architecture, materials and plantings, which has made this Sydney garde design a stunning space to be in.
