sofSURFACES' premier fitness supplier, IndigoFitness creates another high-performance training space for various sports teams that train out of Leigh Sports Village.

The training space is used by Leigh Centurions rugby league team, Manchester United Women’s football team and other local high-performance teams and athletes. The IndigoFitness design plan was to maximise floor space and functionality to allow the gym to work effectively for multiple different teams.

THE SOLUTION

With the gym being on the first floor, there was a flooring requirement to reduce the sound and vibrations travelling to neighbouring rooms and offices. 51mm (1.25") duraTRAIN® Rubber Fitness Tile flooring is a perfect solution whenever there is a concern for audible structure-born sound transfer within buildings. The premium flooring solution was specified to protect the sub-floor and reduce noise transfer to the rest of the building. To ensure a seamless finish to the floor, the custom branded 13 m long turf track was built up to the same height, as were the custom Graphix platforms.

The hub of this gym is the Shadow Series Rack unit, containing 3 power racks with built in storage for small equipment and additional attachments. Further, each rack is linked by bars with ball grip pull up handles for alternative stimulus. Finally, connected to the racks by another storage bay are an integrated Lat Pull/Low Row and a height adjustable cable station. This unit takes up one complete side of the gym and makes a bold statement.

On the other side of the custom track which runs down the center of the gym, there is a dumbbell storage rack holding a full set of Raze PU dumbbells, a bi-lateral leg press, and a glute drive and ham glute bench. Cardio equipment was also supplied with a Wattbike, Concept 2, Renegade Airbike, and Concept 2 Ski Erg. All of these items are loacated at the periphery of the room and with the seamless nature of the flooring, this provides a large amount of open space for coaches to programme and run different elements of their sessions.

THE RESULT

IndigoFitness worked to meet the brief from Leigh Sports Village with attention to detail in every element of this project. From the design to the specifications of flooring and equipment, to the custom branding elements, this has created a high-performance environment with a strong identity and all the ingredients to maximise the training of the athletes that use it.
