Loggia along the Ronco River

architectural design, construction documents and supervision: Roberto Pasini, Andrea Ranieri / masterplan and preliminary concept: Roberto Pasini (head architect), Davide Canali, Andrea Ranieri / Forlì 2007/2010 --- Along the bank of the Ronco River, a free-standing loggia lies in the outskirts of the town overlooking the countryside. It channels an urban spine of walkways, bike-paths, and micro-squares in between its three-storey high parti and the regular series of four housing blocks facing it. Shops line up at the ground level with the residential units above. Counting twenty spans of 4 m each, it is an 80 m long, 13 m high, and 2 m deep convex arcade with slender white columns standing out against a red brick wall with recessed fenestration. When kids started playing soccer using the colums as posts, we assumed it could rightfully fit in Rossi's category of 'scena fissa', that is the permanent scenery of social play. The Loggia can be diversely inhabited across time: it is neither modern nor ancient, but it rather owns a generally classical character.
