Mercure Hotel Wiesbaden

The ground floor of the Mercure Hotel in Wiesbaden was redesigned by Ester Bruzkus Architects together with Batek Architects to create an entrance lobby that is warm, inviting, and fresh. The open 1.730 m2 ground floor was designed with distinct volumes of warm and rich materials, clearly zoned spaces, and the architects’ characteristic attention to detail.

In the center of the lobby, a central reception desk - made from pink marble - stands adjacent to “boxes“ clad in chestnut and brass. Overhead planes of different materials – wood, brass, plaster - help to define spaces below for lounges, cozy seating and clear circulation. The entire ground floor is unified by flooring of dark ceramic tiles.

Past the chestnut-clad box that houses the back offices, guests reach the elevators under a brass-clad bridge. On the way, they can grab a book from the wood-lined library, or perhaps stop for a drink at the dark red marble bar at the end of the hall. At the bar, black marble window seats merge into steps to make the transition to two outside patios. An integrated video wall, visible from the bar, helps define the edge of the restaurant. Opening from the restaurant and breakfast room is the third and largest patio area which expands the interior space to the outside.

The lighting was designed by internationally renowned lighting experts PSLab. Minimal but expert use of light makes the most important areas shine.

Large illuminated brass light fixtures welcome the guests as they arrive. The brass compliments the red, pink and green color scheme, and harmonizes with the chestnut panelling and various natural stone counters, creating a stylish atmosphere that gives guests a reason to return.
