No.222 House in a Urban context.

The family was a modern joint family with a context of old and young ( The grandparent - grand children). The idea was to have an immersive experience in landscape and have a sense of aloofness in the sense of environment. The context was to develop a 2400 sft site surrounded by busy residential layout into a tranquil haven. The need aroused to blend the age old concepts of design such as the ideology of vastu with correct modern day requirement. A fragment of the square was imagined as metaphor for the site, wherein each square was to be interpolated as an activity of the user. Connectivity was one of the major challenges considering the smaller site extent. The integration of levels with nature treated with good lighting and ventilation further added to the feel of the space. The vertical linearity organised the design to different levels. The levels juxtaposed with the nature treated with good lighting and ventilation. The gorund level welcomes warmth by means of rays of light, which filters through a transparent slit layer above the lintel, aiding this crosses with humongous 15 feet height. The foyer branches out to a spacious living with a extended green zone, encompassing only the light and ventilation eliminating the visuals clutter. Corridor raises to move towards the voluptuous double height dining area with, light shedding at every part to the kitchen, puja and the staircase. The dining extends to the serene court with, linearity towards the light and ventilation. The spine that spreads to the spaces adjuncts the inevitability to nurture the design parameter in it. The path adds the staircase core to outbreak the volume of the whole space which enchants the voluptuous double height space, puts down on a visual connectivity over the kids. The ground level carries a master bedroom to the old and a other bedroom for her young ones. The staircase becomes grand element in the entire design stands to the meticulously detailed teak fused with mix of French marble creating the glitter to the space . Tranquillity in the upper level conjunct by the staircase volume that creases out the double height from the cross over bridge that stretches to humongous bed space glued with wooden flooring that projects to a private sit out, this also includes the walk in closet. Other part of the corridor takes to a study and ending to the upper level sit out, with wooden clad over the ceiling. The guest bedroom towards the lower sit out opening with the ambient terrace garden flanking the street. The extending courts are glued with bamboo to create a evenness towards verticality. The whole proportion is drawn with linear planes that extends out from the spaces enchanting the rhythm played towards the design front, the layers that eloped from the spaces marks the tranquillity on the overall. A repetitive pattern synchronised in the whole of this residence which evokes the diffused light in the day and induces artificial light over night in play area over the facade.

The outcome brings in a urban contemporary house with sleek lines, edging proportion to the levels used in the design. The characterisation of materials like white walls, teak wood planks, Italian marble , kota stones, rough slate cladding fetches its own textures to get the essence of the design. Projections on either side to the sit out created more social interaction with the neighbours, without disturbing the privacy of the bed spaces and other social spaces in built environ.
