POLLA

Convex. Convexity presaging the world beneath. You are invited to climb a whale’s back

Emersion. Rainwater absorbed by the porous alluvial ground of highland Lombardy tends to resurface when it meets the impermeable clay soil of the lower plain.

Around Spirano, resurgent water formed large natural pools. Thus, The piazza’s nucleus is a huge oval pool measuring 720x120 metres which emerges from the ground for only a tenth of its length.

Red and black. The red of the porphyry is the animal soul, the pulsating body, which follows the piazza’s organic medieval design. The black of the “alla romana” basalt is “ratio”, the underlying logic of the land’s construction, a tribute to the Roman centurial of the land division.
