Energetical and optical rehab of wired glass northern lights from the 1950's with 50mm thick rodeca tongue and groove panels

The company building was manufactured in the 1950’s. Eighteen northern lights were clad with wired glass. While the refurbishment of the building the most important was to integrate a smoke and heat evacuator with thermal emergency tripping device as well as a better heat insulation of factory workshop. Additionally the customer required the integration of a ventilation function control.

The company Martin Roth e. K. engineered on the basis of the requirement profile of the building owner a concept that fulfilled all job specifications. For rehabilitation of the wired glass constructions Rodeca panels of type 2550-10 in opal colour were used. With its U-value of approx. 0.87 (according to Din EN ISO 100077-2) the panels play a decisive role in enhancement of the building insulation.

The wired glass was removed and the aluminium framing system installed. Within only 20 working days all northern lights, with all-round area of more than 540m², have been glazed with Rodeca panels.

For the smoke heat and venting systems over all 36 Brakel lamellae fans were installed at fire protection relevant areas. The SHE-cylinder opens at 68°C, so that smoke and heat can exhaust naturally.
