The Commons, Australia's leading provider of premium coworking spaces, has just opened its newest location at 32 York Street in the heart of Sydney's central business district. Designed by award-winning architecture firm Foolscap Studio, the 3,260 square meter, 577-person capacity space is the latest design-driven addition to The Commons’ rapidly growing workspace portfolio, with thirteen locations now across Melbourne and Sydney.
"We are thrilled to grow our Sydney presence with this new York Street offering” said Cliff Ho, Co-founder and Managing Director of The Commons. “With its locally inspired design, thoughtfully curated amenities, prime central location, this space epitomises our vision for collaborative, amenity rich workspaces’.

Located just a five-minute walk from Wynyard and Town Hall stations, the new Commons puts members in the center of Sydney's entrepreneurial energy. Elevating the historic Johnsons Temperance Hotel site, transforming it into an amenity-rich destination that resonates with its storied past while embracing modernity.
Established in 1879, the iconic landmark once served as a vibrant public house, offering diverse spaces for hospitality, socialising, and gatherings – mirroring the community based ethos of The Commons. Foolscap Studio, Creative Director Adele Winteridge said, “Our vision was to create an innovative haven that resonates with the building's storied roots while embracing modern workplace needs. Our human-centred approach to design aligns perfectly with The Common’s principles of fostering productivity, collaboration and inspiration through contemporary spatial planning and refined yet functional design.”

Though the music rooms, acoustically treated working spaces and market kitchens may be modern interpretations of the classic office, Winteridge states that it’s just as important to feel a sense of pride in your environment. “I think having a beautiful space to work brings pride,” she says. “It’s that idea that you can bring someone into this space and call your own’. even if you're a really small business, you can have that within The Commons.”
Standout amenities elevating the workspace experience include a music room outfitted with plush furnishings and a piano, a sophisticated library lounge stocked with a vast book and magazine collection, a versatile event space for launches, workshops, networking and more, an outdoor deck with lush greenery for open-air breaks, a robust wellness program featuring yoga, meditation and fitness classes, as well as fully-equipped end-of-trip facilities with showers and lockers.

“Interest in this new location has been exceptionally strong, we’ve secured 250 new members representing 45% occupancy prior to opening. It’s great to see that the demand for our product and flexible workspaces is growing every year.’’ noted Ho.
Securing such a substantial occupancy level before doors even open from notable clients such as Hootsuite, Vinyl Group,MetrixLab and Travelport, it's evident that there is strong demand for The Commons' offering.
Now with thirteen locations across Melbourne and Sydney, the coworking brand’s total flexible workspace is 52,000 sqm. This continued growth highlights the company's ability to attract businesses in a challenging market, setting a promising foundation for the continued success.
