Situated in the Costa Rican jungle, Art Villas Resort consists of three unique villas and one multi-functional tropical pavilion. Of the three villas, this concrete villa was the first to be designed, as well as finished. The concrete walls are deliberately left raw, complementing the interior components, selected materials, water, and greenery – the sum of which creates a rough yet luxurious environment.
The main architect of the whole resort is the Formafatal studio headed by Dagmar Štěpánová. In addition to interior design, they imprinted the final form of each villa and united the entire Art Villas resort into a unique, integrated complex. The design of the concrete villa itself comes from Refuel works.
The two-storey concrete villa occupies a prominent spot on-site with a floor area of 570 m2. Beyond its generous common area (foyer, main living room, kitchen with a dining roof, and a roofed terrace by the pool), the villa includes a total of 5 bedrooms with private bathrooms. In the basement, there is a playroom for children, a gym, dance hall, walk-in closet, laundry, and utility rooms.
The interiors draw inspiration from the surrounding jungle environment, as well as the work of Brazilian architect Paulo Mendez da Rocha.
Teak wood, metal, and linen materials dominate the interior material palette, together with custom made furniture pieces in secondary pastels, bringing a touch of softness to the raw concrete.
The bedrooms and bathrooms feature concrete tiles, custom-made in Nicaragua, and imprinted with ever-changing patterns, colours and reflections.
A hand-painted watercolour jungle motif on the kitchen backsplash is another interior highlight.
