Inspired by its surrounding woodland site in the south of the Netherlands, Villa JM by Powerhouse Company is discretely positioned in the landscape. Large expanses of glass offer ideal views of nature while solid volumes provide privacy. The one storey home is clad with natural stone and wood and combines straight lines and monumental volumes with seductive curves and sinuous glass walls.

The elongated U-shaped floor plan and orientation of spaces present a secretive façade to the world. From the road, the villa appears as a closed rectangle, with one large opening only that gives a slight glimpse of the interior that lies beyond.

The building, including all terraces, is raised approximately 40 cm above ground level, giving it an added presence in the landscape. The exterior features a Portuguese Azule limestone, with massive dimensions, and deep rich ash wood. The heavy stone volumes and austere straight lines recall a serene retreat, while the curved lines and glass walls evoke a sense of lightness.

A sense of lightness is particularly felt in the living room, which is surrounded by glass. Only one small section, in a richly veined marble, provides solidity.

Simple white plaster surfaces and built-in furniture element further enhance the minimalist aesthetic.
