Top 10 Trending Chairs

An outstanding chair can be the focal point of any room, from offices to homes. In this week’s theme article, we take a look at chairs. These are the designs that were most often specified by architects and designers in the past year. These are ten of our most popular options. 

1. Catifa 46 by Arper SPA
Arper’s Catifa 46 is a stackable chair that is nonetheless playful and contemporary. It is suitable for residential and contract use, fitting into both elegant homes and artful offices. There are options that work in outdoor environments as well. An add-on writing tablet makes this a good choice for educational settings. There is also a stool version.

2. Lounge Chair & Ottoman by Vitra.
This timeless lounge, by Charles and Ray Eames, fits into contemporary homes. Designed in 1956, the chair is now available in a version with larger dimensions. Specify it in one of dozens of supple leathers, including snow white and plum. Although traditionally wood veneer, Vitra has worked with the Eames Office to expand the shell offerings into black and white. 

3. Husk by B&B Italia
A cocooning chair by Spanish dynamo Patricia Urquiola, Husk by B & B Italia is both comfortable and versatile. The shell is made of partly recycled materials, and a coordinated footrest completes the chair. Husk is available in three slightly different shapes and a variety of colors. 4. Eames Plastic Side Chair DSR by Vitra.
Another classic by Charles and Ray Eames, the Plastic Side Chair stands the test of time. Production was paused in the 1990’s for sustainability concerns, but an eco-friendlier update has since been made available using recyclable polypropylene. Without changing the look of the chair, it was updated several years ago for improved comfort. Vitra makes many options available for quick shipping.  

5. Elephant chair by Kristalia
Eva Paster and Michael Geldmacher of Neuland were inspired by the animal for the Elephant chair by Kristalia. The backbone of the elephant translated into a unique feature along the chair’s back. The seat, meanwhile, is upholstered in fabric or leather with visible stitching that adds to the unique look. There is also a rocking version of Elephant. 

6. Masters by  Kartell
Silhouettes of three classic chairs intermingle in the Masters chair by Philippe Starck, with Eugeni Quitllet, for Kartell. In polypropylene, Masters is both stackable and suitable for outdoor spaces. It is available in 6 colors including white, orange rust, sage green, black, grey, and mustard. The Masters is an affordable option for a thoughtfully designed chair.

7. Merano Collection by TON Czechia
The Merano chair by Alexander Gufler for TON is both elegant and practical. It has a solid wood base but remains light to carry thanks to unique construction methods. Not only stackable, metal brackets allow chairs to form an interconnected row. The collection includes an armchair, a lounge armchair, and a bar stool. These chairs are carefully crafted to last for generations. 

8. Babila 2700 by PEDRALI
Designed by Odo Fioravanti, Pedrali’s Babila 2700 chair is unique with thoughtful details. A simple shape draws notice but doesn’t detract from the setting that surrounds it — whether an office, a residence, or a café. The legs are solid ash and the shell is ash plywood. A similar chair is available with tubular steel legs. The Babila collection also includes armchairs and a stool with backrest. 

9. LUZ chair by More
Bernhard Müller designed the LUZ chair in 2017. The seat is molded plywood and the frame is black powder-coated steel. It is available with or without armrests. Comfortable without padding, the chair can also be upholstered in an eco-friendly wool. The LUZ is contemporary while recalling the design of earlier decades. Woods for the chair are harvested with sustainable principles. 

10. Showtime chair sled by BD Barcelona Design
Madrid-born designer Jaime Hayon designed the Showtime chair for BD Barcelona Design in 2012. The chair’s cushions and backrest can be upholstered in dozens of different fabrics and leathers. The Showtime chair’s metal sled can be painted several different colors. Armrests are optional. The sled chair is completed by other options in the collection, including swivel, standard metal legs, and wheels.
