We have developed plans for the new Bevaplast building on the IJsseloord II Business Park in Arnhem, prominently visible and located on the IJssel. The puzzling of the program has resulted in a quirky building form that anticipates the landscape of the IJssel from the inside and contributes to the spatial quality of this part of the IJsseloord II business park. The building has a high sustainability ambition and is realized gas-free.
Bevaplast is a supplier of medical and sports medical products. The company has undergone enormous growth and development in recent years, so that more specific knowledge in the field of research (laboratory) and product development will be needed in the future. The new company accommodation provides the necessary space in addition to the extra meters for forwarding and storage that were acutely necessary.
The office environment has been shaped somewhat in line with growth and strategic space has been reserved in the design for future expansion of the warehouse. The difference in program height is one of the main causes of the quirky building shape. The high warehouse and the much smaller building layers of production and office would quickly result in a division. But by articulating the building forms in conjunction with the materialization, a homogeneous and expressive architecture has nevertheless been created with a considerable ambition for sustainability (gas-free and preparation for Breeam).
The image quality plan "IJsseloord II" pays a lot of attention for a business park to high-quality design and landscaping with many hedges and trees. These are gifts for the spatial quality of the context. However, the "metallic" facade materialization for the warehouse, described in this plan, has been much more related by the Architecten_Lab to surrounding sand-yellow buildings. With this golden yellow "metallic" the typical silver-gray architecture era of the 90s - 2000s is broken.
Uniqueness is created, but in connection with the environment. The office is located on the floor behind the sloping and cantilevered facade. The elongated window functions as a "panoramic view" of the landscape. Via the dark staircase you enter the contrasting open office that focuses on the landscape of the river. This sequence of experiences contributes to an inspiring working environment for the employees of Bevaplast.
